that's a terrible way to look at things. here is why, IMO. name recognition is not directly correlated to how many PPV buys there would be. it's a no brainer that more people in the US know who Floyd Mayweather is.

but that doesnt mean they can name any one he has ever fought. a student of mine just told me today she heard of mayweather's name, but couldnt tell me anything about him. all these people who can recognize his name arent going to buy a boxing PPV event. ****, i'd say that just b/c wresting fans bought the PPV wrestlemania and saw FLoyd wrestle, it for damn sure doesnt mean they are going to start watching boxing now. b/c they were going to order it anyway.

but of course, they know who mayweather is b/c he was there, but they dont know **** about him except he fought DLH maybe. Again, outside of hardcore boxing fans, there isnt a casual fan in the world who truly knows anything about Mayweather or Cotto. they will not know that Mayweather beat corrales and went toe -to-toe with castillo. they also wont know much about cotto besides his fight with mosley maybe.

again, they will know who mayweather is, but recognizing a name doesnt make you a PPV draw. i'm not saying Cotto is a bigger draw. but i'm saying that going up to random people on the street asking them if they know floyd or cotto is a terrible argument to debate the amount of ppv buys the fight will receive.

but the main reason dlh sells that much is not because of what he does in the ring but because he is somewhat a celeb..the casual fans care **** all what he does in the ring they just like DLH..did you notice how tito and rjj 2 shot fighters who havent really done anything lately sold out MSG and did good PPV #'s? So you see i believe the real fans go to the fights the casual fans make up 80% of the PPV buys..Popularity counts big time.

Definitely true. While I agree with the original post, I disagree with his "guarantee" that Cotto/PBF would sell more than PBF/DLH II. Perhaps if after Cotto beats Gomez he fights DLH then maybe Cotto becomes a bigger draw. For now, PBF is doing what makes dollars and sense.

the problem lies in the fact that the boxers control the sport instead of the sport controlling the boxers

im not saying knowing a boxers name alone gets him PPv's but it does count because how many people order fights(well dlh fights anyway) off that alone if its enough buzz around it.

:good he's another one like DLH ..i couldnt figure out why him and lewis did so well ppv wise in their fight and the 2nd Holyfield match was insane but people still order just because they know who tyson is

i think Arum is really smart for what he is doing with cotto over the last 2 yrs..let beat zab and shane two KNOWN fighters and then destroy guys like gomez and whoever else arum has lined up thats not in his league.. this gives the casual fans the image that cotto DESTROYS everybody and is the man to knock off PBF..buliding his popularity..i fully expect cotto to call out pbf on saturday

It's always good to have some characters that draw in people. It's a plus when that character can fight and fight well.

First of cotto has no choice but to fight who ever Arum put in front of him because he under contract .. Second of all Arum has not put Cotto in with Real stiff competition since guiding his boxing career, as he did Floyd at the beginning of his career.

and thread yes floyd should get the Lion share of profit but who says arum would agree to it , he has already proven in the past that if he does get paid then the fight ant worth making . he did this with Floyd vs Oscar which why Floyd had to sever his ties with Arum to make the Oscar fight .
Arum also had a chance to make Floyd vs Margarito but again bowed out because floyd would only fight Margarito if Arum Threw in Cotto and Hatton for 10 mill apeace as part of the deal .. again Arum said no Go ..Even though these were fights fans wanted to see but according to arum the price was too steep but in the same breath tried to goad Floyd into fighting Margarito buy telling all who would listen that floyd was afraid of Margarito.

side note Margartio also believing in the hype created by Arum, went around arum made a deal with the Goosen to fight William instead of cotto for more money and got beat and then almost got sued by arum. man who says Arum is a bad guy

and 4 are you ****ing Crazy , dumb stupid or slow ?? you want two fighters to put there health and lives on the line for next to nothing with out getting paid or getting paid very little, so you can see a fight !!?? I doubt Cotto would even agree to that, what fighter with a family would.

Last I check Boxing is a profession not a hobby , boxer fight to get paid and get paid well ..anyone that think fighter should fight only for the Glory is out of there ****ing mind !!

fight for Glory !!!!??? **** that !!! Tell that to Gerald McClellan ...or Better yet try making a thread dedicated to the man and watch how many assholes flame it . Glory has done very little for McClellen and his Family or even earn him the respect he deserves among so called boxing fans.

"Glory" it don't pay the bills , medical or your kid's tuition or even your funeral , I bet chico's family can vogue for that ..

As a boxing Fan , I would never demand a fighter to do something that I myself am not prepared to do.

Fighter fight because the love the sport , but that doesn't mean they should get dicked for it .

BULL****...Floyd turned down a big payday to fight Margo, but chose to fight Bruseles instead...is it because of Bruseles large American following?

Floyd turned down the Margarito fight to fight Baldomir, for the same payday, and a new promoter.

so many ****ing excuses:patsch You Floyd groupies are pathetic, always trying to find logic by pulling at straws.

Floyd is not fighting for free, so stop trying to make him sound like he struggling to feed his kids. What choices does he have right now...besides fighting DLH or Hatton again and again and again. So you rather floyd give up 10-15 million dollars to fight Cotto and get 2 million by making an ass out of himself and a mockery of boxing by play fighting Big Show.

Do you really think he can make more money fighting someone else? Who else besides Cotto....I know, I know...you're really concerned about Gayweather's financial status:roll: ...I find it funny , Floyd fans are like battered women...they can get punched in the face, over and over again, and still look for reasons to justify it.:-(

So in other words...Floyd bitched out of a tough fight. That's what you're really saying isn't it? He could've had the same money and at the same time quiet the critics by showing them he wasn't a coward.
