He took the lesser risk, for the same financial reward. If that's what you think makes one a "coward", then that's your opinion. I rarely think boxers make decisions based on fear or "cowardice". It's usually business.
it's not business, if the money was the same. If Floyd is as good as he think he is then fighting Margo over bruseles shouldn't be a factor, since either way, they pose no challenge, right?...and another belt as a bonus.
Why are you bringing up Bruseles? It was business, he bought out of the contract with Top Rank. The Baldomir fight was Mayweather's first without Arum. Look at how well he's done financially since he split with Arum. As for the belt, well, Mayweather got a WBC belt instead of a WBO belt, at 147. Baldomir being an easier fight than Margarito probably played a role in his choice as well, but as much as people don't want to admit it, risk/reward does play a role in fighters' decisions.
This content is protected dude you don't even know the flavor of the kool aid so shut the **** up .. I never said the man was struggling to feed his kid moron nor did I give that he wasn't well off .. but any fighter that has kid has to think what might happen to them if they are severely injured or killed in the ring .. getting 2 million for a supper fight and giving 15 to 20 percent to your promoter , another 15 to your manager , training fees and paying taxes hardly makes that 2 million worth it. obviously floyd is getting more then 2 mill but I used that as an example .. In any case Arum is not ready to make a serious offer to Floyd anyway he's doing his usual war drum beating but has not put up **** .. he want the fight so bad , show the ****ing money and make the fight .. point ****ing blank. Floyd haters are just like jilted high school bitches they always have something to cry about , even when it doesn't pertain to them. now get the **** off my jock. next time come correct or don't come at all.
again ya dunce ******* for the 20th time Arum stated that floyd would have fought margarito for the 8 mill only if Arum would give him both Cotto and hatton for 10 mill a peace which arum refused ..
Mayweather brings positive attention to boxing, the undefeated brash fighter with a great, fluid and crisp boxing style who takes on the best marketable and usually the most challenging fights. The guy can make superfights- he's interesting. And he does more than boxing (interviews, shows, MTV cribs, Wrestlemania (!), dancing with the stars (!)...).
You say this over and over. WTF does Cotto or Hatton's purse have to do with the offer to Margarito. You make it sound like he turned down the Margarito fight based on those other two. Is that it?
Damn, it's easy to be critical of Mayweather and he deserves most of it, but this is too much. I thought Floyd was quieting the critics by fighting for the lineal championship. Beating the fighter who was recognized by all as the division's champion, something Mayweather didn't do at 140 (which he was criticized for heavily). He got an alphabet title at 140 then another one at 147 from Judah and was claiming to be a 4 division champion. That garnished him a lot of criticism. So...he challenges the true champion in a division (the first time since 135) instead of fighting Margarito, and Mayweather gets blasted for it. Damn, give it a ****ing rest. If your pissed he's not fighting Cotto...that's ok. If your upset he's taking rematches with DLH and Hatton....cool. If your critical that he didn't fight Casamayor...I can live with it. But, stop implying that he "ducked" Margarito because he had options and simply choose another one.
The real shame is cotto fighting gomez and not giving us another Shane Mosley fight!!! If Cotto was to have a great showing Floyd would have no other choice. If he beats the hell outta Gomez, its more like so what. If Shane beats the hell outta Zab I will bet money that floyd will fight Shane instead. Only pure boxing fans like myself and all others on this site really know who the hell Cotto is. He can walk in an airport wit a nametag and only some people will know who he is. Until he because a household name I really don't believe that Floyd should take the risk. Don't get me wrong I love Cotto he is a true warrior but I need him to beat Shane or the winner of the Cintron fight on PPV for me to really warrant a fight between him and Floyd. The Risk isn't worth the reward. De la Hoya is washed up and I wish Floyd would just take the entire year off and Let this Cotto thing play out so We can have a Megafight of the undefeated Cotto vs Mayweather. LETS GO STEVIE FORBS!!!! FOR BOXINGS SAKE!!!!!
ah so the truth is out finally you dont know **** about what happened...pbf fought bruselles in jan.2005..the marg offer was in 06...atsch
You make some very valid points, but I think you lose sight of things with your fourth point. I'm not asking Mayweather to put his health at risk for next to nothing. He would get his money if he fought Cotto or any other legitimate contender. Boxing is not ****ing golf, any fight can be your last. A bum can have a lucky night and take you out so why not take on the best? I don't know what the **** you are talking about. Your glory and your bank account can grow simultaneously. If PBF cleaned out his division, people would like him even more because he would seem even more immortal. Thus equaling larger purses, etc. It doesn't take a genius to see that. As a boxing fan, you shouldn't settle for bull**** but I guess that is your favorite dish.
As much as they hype **** these days, it is possible. This is an anticipated matchup so if your realistic you could see the possibility...
