Mayweather IS what's wrong with boxing...

No ****ign kidding. When floyd was figthing Brussels he was still LWW, Margarito was fighting for WW titles. Ya, Floyd ducked him big time in 2005.....By staying at 140 for the next year........

 

In boxing, if you aren't trying to make as much money as you can, you failed your kids. Only an idiot would partake in such a brutal sport and not make money.

 

I didn't read the first post or any others. I'm just gonna say this: Mayweather IS NOT what is wrong with boxing. There are many things wrong with boxing. Mayweathers recent and current approach to his career is a result of the problems in the sport. He did not create the problems, he isn't the problems. Oscar didn't create the problems. If you wanna blame anyone, I would say that Tyson is probably the most responsible of any fighter...simply by being such a HUGE PPV attraction. But honestly I don't know much about the history of how PPV came about and how all the sanctioning bodies came about. But it WAS NOT THE FAULT OF ANY FIGHTER.

 

I will also throw something else out there. If boxing was structured like MMA is, then we would have already seen Mayweather vs Cotto, Mayweather vs Shane and any other fight that the fans demand.

 

Oh wow Floyd is trying to make as much money as he can for himself, what a monster... Let's get real here for a second, if any one of us got two job offers, one where you're helping kids and another in a big firm that pays three times as much, same hours. Which one would you pick? Of course you're gonna go for the money, EVERYBODY does...

Why do you think Cotto fought Judah and Mosley instead of Williams, Margarito, Clottey etc.? Why do you think Pacquiao is willing to jump 4 weight classes to fight ODLH? MORE MONEY...

It's not because of Floyd or Boxing, it's because we live in a capitalist society, Floyd is just playing his part like everybody else...

I mean some of you need to spend less time in this place, you take all this way too serious, worry about your own life instead of worrying so much about these boxers...

 

No I just don't like hearing so called boxing fan bitching and complaining about every ****ing thing in the book regarding fighters who get pimped by the system all the time .
as a boxing fan I should care well being of the sport as well as its athletes that have history of getting jobbed the sport and forgotten buy there fans.

 

He did , that the only way he would take the margarito fight if Arum made hatton and cotto part of the deal ..

so that you understand Floyd want a 3 fight deal that included Margarito , Hatton , and Cotto. with a combined purse for all three fight 28 mill
8 mill for margarito , 10 for hatton and 10 for cotto , what so hard to understand?

 

How many more people does Floyd Mayweather have to beat, have to out class, out skill for "pathetic posts like this to stop"

It will never be enough when he beats Cotto there will still be haters saying he didn't prove anything. Just like the haters during the PBF-Hatton buildup saying Hatton would win then after the fight they were some of the first to discredit his win.:-(

 

Floyd is not necessarily what is wrong with boxing, Floyd has skills that are indeed to be awestruck by, but his dire greed is something boxing could do without.. Ego maniacs in boxinghas made our heavyweights in particular very lazy.. Where did all of the hunger go..

 

Good posts for the most part, but your 4th point is insane. We are not talking about up and comers fighting for pennies in some warehouse somewhere. We are talking about Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto. Both of these guys are at a point in their careers where they are making millions. So to say they are risking their health for chump change is ridiculous. these guys make more than enough money for generations to come if invested properly. not only that, but honestly the serious risk of injury is not very likely. yes, it does happen. but people having long term injuries in boxing is not as often as the other major sports. not to mention, if you are a superstar boxer, then you are making more money than most athletes.

Floyd mayweather will never fight for pennies. so matter how much he gets paid to fight cotto, it will be more than enough to feed his family, his corny ass "friend's," and provide food for all the homeless people in the united states. he has plenty of money.

i think he can afford to fight for some glory. if anything, he should be fighting for glory now more than ever b/c he has the money to do so.

 

In theory, it's nice to think that once fighters reach a certain point in their careers where they're rich and HOF bound, that they look at enhancing their all-time standing rather than their bank accounts.

But in actuality, it tends to work the other way. They go for the paydays.

 

you're right about that. it's sad b/c in other sports, it's opposite. once a football/b-ball/soccer/any player in the world makes that big payday, they play hard as hell. shoot, they probably play even harder if they think they can get an even larger payday.

 

my guess is that for one reason or another ODLH vs PBF II won't come off.
