No he isn't the problem. But he certainly doesn't help the sport by fighting a rematch against a guy he already beat becuase it brings money to the table instead of the most worthy challenger. If the best consistently fought the best, fans would flock to this sport.
No way to talk about the number 1 PFP boxer on the planet. Cotto will eventually face Floyd and get knocked the **** out.
If Mayweather is what's wrong with boxing, then you wouldn't have almost a whole page to fill up with bull****
As if Floyd is looking to get them? atsch Floyd is perfectly fine letting other top WW's fight then do it himself.
cintron and cotto wouldnt even have belts if baldamir had paid the sanctioning fee they are paper champions
I think he is making a point, but its just going over your head maybe. I think he's making the argument against sanction bodies, fees, and all of the other politics. I think he's making the argument if it wasn't for some business/political bull****, Baldomir would have had all of the belts until Floyd beat him. If Floyd was the only champion in that division, it would force the other fighters (aside from Margarito already) to start directly challenging Floyd instead of taking fights against other Welterweights for paper championships. This would eventual increase the pressure and criticism on Mayweather if he continued to avoid Welterweights. Also, you wouldn't have the "there's four champions" argument anymore. It would simplify the status of the division. So, instead of blaming the individual, I think he is looking at the larger systemic problems that exist in boxing which permits and fosters such behavior. Just my take.
Yeah Ali, Robinson, and Leonard fought for the money but at the end of the day they fought the top competition in their respective areas. You can't say that about Floyd Mayweather. Who did Ali, Robinson, and Leonard not fight? You can't say anything about them. You are right though, we should only have one belt per division, at most two. I just blasted Mayweather because I just wish as the P4P king he would fight everybody and be a fighting champion like the legends we just discussed.
He's a self promoter. He's in control of his career and he does what he wants rather than fight whoever/whenever Don King, Bob Arum, etc. tells him to. How many fighter wish they could say that? Being on dancing with the stars, WWE, and just talking **** all the time and being a ***** is all about putting his name out there. Any publicity is good publicity. 3/4 of the posts on this site are about who? Believe it or not, the more people hate him, the more of you will tune in, with hopes of seeing him lose. so in a way, the haters are making his impact on the sport that much more significant. My advice, if you hate him, don't watch his fights, don't attend his fight, and don't talk about him.
If we had more boxers who were concerned about being fighting champions, then that sponsor problem would be solved. Sponors would jump to a sport that constantly provided exciting, new matches. People don't care because too much politics is involved. Bad **** can be associated with any sport, and I'm referring to the other things you listed. Look at the NBA with the ref who was trying to fix games, MLB with steriods, NFL with Spygate, etc. If everybody was concerned about fighting the best out, you can't tell me that wouldn't solve a lot of the problems.
