Why is it that Floyd Mayweather Jr. still uses Golden Boy Promotions to subcontract his fights since he's an independent boxer not tied to any promotion company?

I know a lot of fighters have their own promotion companies; Miguel Cotto Promotions, Super Judah Promotions, Amir Khan Promotions etc, but why do they have to be a part of his fights? It's obvious their alliances are with Ortiz, and in the past with Marquez too, and Mosley. I know it's all a business, but what are they needed for on Mayweather Jr. side?

im guessing its because they dont have the money to completely promote the fights by themselves...but so they don't get completely fukked out of money...they help promote.

Well for starters working with Golden Boy means he has an inside track with some very good opponents: Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz, Canelo Alvarez(and in the past Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, and Ricky Hatton). They also have more experience and more connections to HBO and they charge less than what it would cost him to do this all by himself.

Essentially he's giving up a quarter for what would cost him a dollar.

    connections.

golden boy has sponsorship, contacts with hbo, 24/7, the infrastructure to put on a big fight. it takes an army to promote a fight- mayweather productions is like 2 people in reality. much easier to go to golden boy than to hire a bunch of pros to do the marketing, the touring, the scheduling, all sponsorship deals, all that. golden boy is a real company, wit staff and offices and ****, mayweather prods is like ellerbe with a laptop and a phone. there is so much work that goes into promotiing, when you think about all the people that need to be on just to coordinate a simple weigh in - the staff, the contracts, the insurance, etc, etc.
