Showtime have to sell around 500k PPV just to cover Mayweathers guarantee for a fight. Then factor in all the other costs, its a major worry for them. But HBO would potentially lose millions too by going in direct competition so one of the other will probably give way.

Interesting to see what way the undercards would fall if the dates did compete and what way GB and/or Haymon fighters would go.

    LOL.

What you can't comprehend is the fact that both Cotto's and Alvarez' purse will likely be less than 10 Million combined. 10 millions is FAR less than Mayweather's 32 million dollar guarantee.

It would be in HBO's best interested to have Cotto and Canelo fight on Cinco De Mayo.

For one, the fight would be profitable and manage to outsell Mayweather's fight against a non Mexican opponent.

Secondly, SHOWTIME would lose a significant amount of money, reducing their budget for boxing.

This means HBO could gain more of their fighters for a better price. If it really flops, HBO could have a virtual monopoly on boxing.

    Think about it.

    It's not difficult to understand.

SHOWTIME is not going to do what some man child imbecile who can't read tells them to do.

    We will see.

You're not thinking about it rationally, but OK. Not worth debating over our guesses.

It's not a science. It's just a prediction. I don't pretend to be in the boxing industry... My thoughts, if you care to read them without cynically insulting...

There isn't going to be that dramatically great of a difference between Alvarez and Cotto fighting on a Mexican holiday or a Puerto Rican holiday. Hell, they could fight in February and the numbers wouldn't fall off that dramatically from any other time of the year, in my opinion. Mayweather, being an American who is disliked and watched to see lose more often than not, relies on those Mexican holidays more for the casual tune ins and connecting with the Mexican-American audience (which no doubt is boxings biggest audience in the US).

Fighting in June/July would give Alvarez and/or Cotto the chance to take a soft touch interim bout, so there is some logic there (especially when we know HBO was planning for that in December with Alvarez/Clottey).

Mayweather has some bargaining chips with HBO here... With Al Haymon behind him, he could easily agree to match up some of his fighters with some HBO guys on HBO in a de facto "trade" of sorts. Mayweather also has millions of dollars that he could throw for essential "step aside" money. And lastly, the MGM in Vegas would be the likely location for both and they have quite the great relationship with Mayweather and have for many years.

Do you still find it completely unreasonable and worthy of attempting to insult someone for having this opinion, wait, this prediction???

I wasnt disagreeing with you, no need to get so defensive.

I agree that HBO could say 'ok we are going to go for that date because Sho will lose more than us' but in that case Sho might pull out. And Cotto-Canelo would be probanly the biggest HBO fight of the year so losing 100000s of PPV buys just to spite Sho mightnt be the wisest thing either.

I wonder could GB say that they wouldnt let Khan fight Mayweather on May 3rd and put all their energy (and GB top guys) on the HBO Canelo undercard to try to leave Mayweather high and dry.

Someone said this yesterday here. Can't remember if it's you. As I said before, it does not matter whether he makes 32 million or 40, or 50 million, showtime will straight out tell him, we don't want to set up anything on May 5th because Cotto vs. Alvarez is a go for that date on HBO. There is no one he can fight for that date other than Pacquaio who can compete with that on buys. Showtime is not about to okay a card with him headlining it fighting someone like Garcia or Khan. They will tell him to reschedule.

LMFAO it's HBO who needs to be concerned. They don't listen to haters, they listen to real world stats. Floyd has consistently outsold everybody in PPV. HBO will not take that risk.
