I am interested in this fight. It will sell better than if either of the two fought Dawson, and it is lower risk for both fighters. Floyd is justified in his criticizim of Hopkins based on how Hopkins acted after Floyds last fight. In my opinion Floyd is just trying to make the point that Hopkins has no right to judge Mayweather based on who he fights if he is not going to fight the best himself.

 

Jones has been done at the elite level for years now, he doesn't have his footwork, he lost his reflexes and lost almost all of his power.
He just stays on the ropes and tries to counter from there, I just don't see what Jones brings that will actually bother Hopkins.

This fight doesn't prove ANYTHING, I just hope that Jones finally retires(which he should have done like 5 years ago).

I've long given up the idea that this board would gather true boxing fans, appreciative of ring skills and athleticism. as much as i like bernard hopkins i agree. jones is pretty past it. hopkins as well but he has way more left than jones.

At 45 Hop could go downhill in any fight. The man already has his legacy and after he's gone it will continue to grow. the Pav fights and the Tarver fights over the age of 40 are huge where he wasn't given much of a chance either time. I think he's faced top notch and should get ready for retirement.

 

Mayweather is nothing more than an egotistical prima donna who was blessed with incredible natural boxing talent. Unfortunately he was given the heart & cojones of a gnat. How anyone can still support a guy that basically has wasted his God given talents defeats me:barf

He cherry picked his opponents as everyone knows he ducked real opposition like Tony Margarito & Shane Mosely

 

So big ****en deal, he'll retire as a great one whose resume as a WW may not have been up to everyone's expectations (i.e. ducking a subpar mw shrunk into a ww who will be remembered for his creative use of plaster of paris and the EPO offender who kicked his ass).

Wouldn't be the first time a great boxer's legacy is tainted with questionable matchups or the fights he didn't fight.

 

There are 4-5 belts boxers fight for in each weight class. Stating that poor boy accomplishment doesn't hold the same weight as it used to.
