Seriously, what does Floyd actually want, to be loved? well why does he play the bad guy, is it because his defensive style wouldn't allow him to make the same kind of money, therefore he needs to play the villain? so what's he complaining about?

What Floyd wants, is to talk all kinds of ****, come across like an intolerable, petulant teenager, fight in a defensive orientated manner, and have majority of people root for him.

Dont matter what race you are, when you come across as intolerable as what Floyd does, its hard to root for that guy. It aint about race, its about taste, people dont like other people, black or white, who are up their own arse.

OK! but remember some Floyd fans love him no matter what he does. They will never say anything bad about him. Poking the eyes of a security officer, beating a woman! Law suit left and right! Taking looong extended vacation and saying there was no negotiation that occured etc etc...
and yet he expects to be loved, honored, supported and adored?!atsch

This is how i understand it all went down. It's a shame that most of the world, especially the internet find Floyd to be a coward and a fraud when it is clear as day that he will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. I tell people all the time, man watch in 20 years, they will be praising lil Floyd and the younger generations will aspire / study his every move. I used to be a Floyd hater ofc we are mexican, we loved Gatti and De La Hoya and Floyd just dominated them created a lot of hate but I love boxing with a passion like no other and now I love to watch nothing but Floyd, Marquez or Sweat Pea or old school fighters. Since studying Floyd, my whole perception of boxing changed, it really did and i'm glad that I caught on cause next time Floyd fights, ima be there live to see it. Mayweather isn't criticizing "black America," in my opinion, he's criticizing America. The point is that if you're a black athlete, America doesn't have your back like the Philippines has Manny's back. Whether or not you agree with Floyd, that seems to be the point.

Here's the problem for Floyd, and someone pointed this out in post #30 here: Floyd chose a deliberate marketing strategy (make it rain, loud, etc) that catered to a subset of the population while alienating a large part of the population. And it's worked out pretty well for him: Check the PPV numbers.

However, every choice has its consequences. And it looks like Floyd is beginning to realize the consequences of his marketing choices.

George Foreman was fairly well liked when he did the American flag thing at the Olympics. Still, George was regarded as a brooding Angry Young Man type for the first part of his career.

When George made his comeback, he changed all that. He was funny, he was outgoing, he was amiable. So, people changed their outlook on him. And the older population was behind him.

You know the rest. George is beloved today.

Floyd could probably do the same thing. It would take time, but he could probably do it.

However, getting into trouble with the law and going after the most beloved figure in the sport, and the sport's best fighter, isn't helping Floyd out any. So if he's going to change his ways, he's going to have to do so drastically, IMO.
