I think that is exactly the problem. Mayweathers' home doesn't root for him.

He plays the villain, but honestly I think that crap hurts him. He wins and people find fault in it. He wins with virtuoso performances and then people call him a coward. A guy from a different place comes, fights the same guys, and is made into a star.

I guess as a guy whose life is the ART of Boxing not the SPORT of Boxing it hits him hard when American fans and press don't stand up for him.

It's hard to enthusiastically root for your home team when they're not as aggressive and as entertaining as you know they can be.

Back in the Philippines, some time back, everybody rooted for Penalosa and Espinosa in their championship fights, and wanted them to win, but somehow it was not at the level of their enthusiastic support for Manny's fights.

They were not as aggressive and a little too cautious and too technical (or too small) and it can be frustrating to watch, a bit.

    It's about styles too.

Americans never had a problem getting behind Tyson's fights during his prime.

bald_head_slick -- Good stuff. My computer got messed up, ESB got backed up. I have to run for now, but hopefully we can pick this up later. Great talking with you, and take care! You have a good head on your shoulder, even if we don't agree on every last point.

    Peace. :thumbsup

I'm white and I would support Floyd if he fought Pacquiao. Because he's an American and I make "American" decisions.

Oh jeeze, the sellout argument. WTF is this "Blackness" even mean? Is it over use of hip-hop slang? Is it anger towards the man? It is a dumb arcane idea.
The guy was "sterlized"? Seriously? Honestly?

So there is no racism in golf.... uh ok. gotcha. Capitalism dominates in golf and only golf. gotcha.

    Good we agree.

Hated? TO has a lot of endorsements and had his own TV show. Ali though hated by the general establishment of what was perceived a racist attitude (which if you ask Frazier is actually legit) and going against the Vietnam War draft - which was applied to every anti-war individual of that time.

My point was even these athletes that is "black enough" (aka blacks with lower class baggage and anger) found success and acceptance in parts of society with both fame and success.

Tiger and Montana is not relevent because they don't fit your constructed view of society.

Can't believe you are even comparing Rocky to Frazier.

No you over simplify and buy in to the race must be the factor that dictates PBF's appeal compared to Pac.

"EAsier"? Come on. The dude plays the villain willingly, boasts about it and make racist comments.
You might as well ask Filipinos to be PBF fans also.

You can't have your cake and eat it to. You cant say a segment of society to be morally corrupt and then ask that exact segment to support you.

Unracial? LOL. No I just understand the complexities and do not blame everything and anything to racism because things don't work out I expected them to be.
Racism in today's world is used as a free pass as much as it is a legit reason.

Yeah I laugh also. I love the assumption you made of my race and my neighborhood. You just can't resist pulling that race card do you? Oh the irony.

Plays the villain? He doesn't play as villain, he really is an *******.
You can defend all those trash talking and say he's just playing villain, but beating his girl, threatening his son, security guards? Are you telling me that's part of his villain role playing? :rofl:rofl:rofl

Accusing someone of Cheating, racist slurs, was that also part of his villain act?

He's a good actor, he also plays villain outside the ring. :hi:

im with Swarmer with this. I would like to think that our culture has progressed positively from the past history. Mayweather's actions are not excuseable, or permissible/overlooked by the fanbase. To cop out another's actions by saying "well, it was alright back in the day" is just really pitiful....

These days, people hold heroes at a higher level of accountability and personal responsibility when it comes to being a role model, REGARDLESS of ethnicity or nationality

I think you're as delusioned as Mayweather is with his narcissism....

"Plays the Villain"? When innocent people are getting hurt outside the ring, is this just make-believe, or is it reality? He doesnt play the villain, if he looks in the mirror, he will SEE a villain.

He does a wonderful job patronizing his own ethnicity, talks all kind of mad **** with no serious plans of backing it up, lacks respect to others including his own mother who he called "a cheap lady" in his latest video interview (check Fighthype.com if you care to watch it), and in half his interviews he talks so highly of himself as if he thinks he's Boxing's God. Who can admire this character, besides yourself?

Mayweathers a *****, from the core up. And that's why "his people" don't like him.

In b4 more race card nonsense and "...but he does charity."

Pacquaio is a blood and guts warrior who fights for his fans, Floyd is a defensive, calculating boxer "Fans don't pay my bills". Therein lies the difference.
