Before anybody starts to blast this....I was just discussing this with someone about what is going on with how long this fight is taking to be made with one fighter seen as being reluctant to get in the ring...style wise: one boxer, the other a little terror...while one is on top of his game while the other may be on the slide and isn't going to get any better the longer he is out, especially in the legs...and was asked for a fight off the top of my head that it reminds me of and I came up with Spinks vs. Tyson. Now given, I watch Tyson fights a lot so it is always fresh in my mind but still... So the biggest surprise that most wouldn't expect after all this build up if this fight is finally made....Pac KO 1 over Floyd. And then Floyd retires That would be crazy. Yes, lots of differences but still funny that popped up. Of course it could also be Buster Douglas vs. Tyson without factoring in the build-up. Or Holyfield vs. Tyson if given the build-up.
Thats crazy hahaha I dont think round 1 NO WAY Floyd is too good a defensive fighter... Can we stop with these Floyd and Manny threads lol table it until FEB 2011. WAR MARQUEZ!!
You should compare FMJ vs Pac to ... I don't know, some other fictional fight. ...Creed/Balboa perhaps.
Floyd won't get KO'd the same way Spinx was. If he's KO'd, it won't be because he's overwhelmed, it will be because Manny caught him with a good shot.
Yeah, I figure that as well...but the discussion was about everything that was being said which one was the mention that Floyd is avoiding Pac because he is deathly afraid of him. It wasn't meant to actually be what I thought would happen but what would be if we are putting all of what is being said into a pot and had to come up with a fight out of the blue that it reminds you of...so Spinks vs. Tyson popped up. I thought it was funny when I said it to my friend in the discussion because I don't really think that is the case.
Not a prayer, never gonna happen... Spinks was shitting his pants in there that night... I never saw a guy look so intimidated,,, and actually scared... as Spinks did during the pre-fight intros and stare-down. His heart was gone... he was a KO waiting to happen. Floyd will be confident and ready to roll with his boxing in round one. Manny will be lucky to touch him at all in the 1st round imo. BUT **** IT... NO MORE PAC/MAY THREADS!
ko wont happen that quick , but manny will break him down over the course of the fight. slow decapitation. Floyd doesn't have the balls to back manny off.
The one I actually think more of for comparisons in the 80s is Leonard-Hagler. Naturally there are some differences (Hagler being the bigger man unlike Pacquiao, both Mayweather and Pacquiao closer to their peaks than Leonard & Hagler in 87', etc..) but there's some similarities. Pacquiao and Hagler being hard-hitting lefties, and known as more aggressive fighters than Mayweather & Leonard (while Ray was much more flat-footed and aggressive than many remember him, Hagler had gotten more aggressive in later years, especially in the Hearns fight). Hagler and Pacquiao having early losses and had to work their way more to get noticed, Leonard and Mayweather being Olympic medalists are more known. Obviously Leonard was the bigger star but Floyd was still on HBO a lot and on the cover of boxing magazines fairly early in his career, winning Fighter of the Year in his second full year as a pro. Leonard and Mayweather not being very active fighters: Mayweather with only two fights since the end of 2007, Leonard having one fight from 1983 through 1986. Both of them making contractual demands that many in boxing don't appreciate (unlike Hagler, Pacquiao makes demands too that many in boxing also don't like).
Again, I was using what others said and coming up with a fight to compare. So for those that were saying Floyd is avoiding this fight because he is scared, along with the other factors, I registered a fight to say....
I'll throw in James Toney Vs. Michael Nunn A master boxer against at the time a killer in Toney. In a flash the tech got caught.
HAHAHA Floyd is going to take Manny apart. Similiar to Mayweather vs Marquez ,but Manny will have his moments unlike JMM. He may even put Mayweather down once or twice, but ultimately Pacquiao will be soundly outboxed like Morales did him in 2005. 116-112 -ish Money!!!
