I guess this goes to every fans of the sport. Whether you're a fan of Lennox , Hatton , Tyson , Pac , Povetkin , Ali etc....etc.. Haters tend to criticize their opponents. labeling them as "cans" or "c level" fighters. It's a way of proving that the likes of Mayweather (for example) have never been "tested" against top competition. But ironically , fans do the very same mistake. For instance , a mayweather fan says: "see i told you he was overrated!" (speaking of Hatton) "the guy was one dimensional , he sucks , mayweather pwnd him" etc... ok , (these are cliched examples but you get the idea.) My point is , as a fan , you are (maybe unconsciously) not really helping your hero. You see , each time you're talking **** about your fav fighter's opponent , you're also admiting that your top fighter is fighting...bums. Which begs the question...If each time the likes of Calzaghe , Hopkins , Haye , Pavlik etc...are winning , if you're gonna say something such as "told ya he was overrated" etc... by confirming that , what are their achievements ? and why do you even bother supporting them ? Belittling your hero's opponents is not doing any good to his credibility. Respecting your hero's opponents = to respect your hero's fighting resume and legacy. Of course we shouldn't go into some extremes either. (for instance if your favorite fighter is really fighting a no hoper , then it's useless to pretend that he just fought a top fighter). But it seems a bit stupid to criticize the likes of Taylor , Hatton , Brewster , Kessler etc... ( Of course i'm saying all this but i've done similar mistakes in the past.)
that's way its best not to hate. even criticize just because a certain boxer lacks traits that you like. some hate was so extreme that they wish tragedy to a boxer (i hope he gets KTFO, or he will get to the hospital after this fight).
posters with blind loyalty tend to do that. real boxing afficionados are those who also appreciate what their fave fighter's opponents bring to the ring.
Gary Lockett is p4p #2 at least and this is gonna be one tough fight. Hopefully Pav will make it thru this toughest of tests.
Isn't it a bit of a contradiction though ?...Why should you give credit for exposing a "fraud" ? If the guy is a fraud , then = that he never was anything special to begin with. And if you , we as fans are admiting that , where is the merit of beating a fraud ?... And so , this goes back to my first point....If it's just about exposing frauds and not beating top fighters , Hopkins' legacy is worthless too. Whether you're a fan or a hater , whenever you're admiting that this or that guy is a bum , fraud , can....It takes away the prestige of a so called "top" fighter's resume. Whether you "legitimately think" that he's a fraud is irrelevant. It's not a question of being "honest" or "lying"...it's a case of admiting it. I'm just asking a simple question...if you honestly think that (in this case) , Calzaghe is a joke / fraud , then it's just another worthless victory on Hopkins resume.
its taken me a while but ive learned to just ignore certain posters who are blatant haters or fanboys. Some people are just morons, either blindly loving or hating certain fighters. It's crazy how many people on here fall into one or the other category. These jokers have crazy logic, no consistency and know as much about boxing as my girlfriend.
I will never understand how anyone actually "hates" any boxer. They are out there performing for us. Unless they did something to you personally... how on earth can you hate them? There are some boxers who rub me the wrong way, but you never see me on here calling them "****s" or wishing that they get knocked out and injured, ect.... I don't get it.
