3 minute spans at a time.

The overall feel of the fight and if it were scored as the 36 minute entirely, it would certainly be closer than that... but 117-111 for Floyd is a totally acceptable and easily supportable scorecard.

It's all about winning separate 3 minute time blocks at a time by the scoring criteria the judges are using.

I think that's what people (casuals) are having the hardest time understanding... How to judge a fight; the criteria, the timing, etc.

This was classic pure boxer vs. pure swarmer and that's a recipe for disaster when it comes to getting people to understand how to score a fight... Too much time spent watching UFC or only ever seeing Tyson highlight clips with most of those kind of guys.

It doesn't take anything away from Maidana and his great effort to properly score the rounds.

It's like trying to justify why Bradley won on the judges cards in Pac-Bradley 1. Those early rounds were indeed for Maidana.

I always score fights with pen and paper, 3 minutes at a time.

I just watched the fight yesterday and was skeptical of those people that have been saying Maidana was even competitive.
My first inclination was to think that Maidana had brought the pressure but was'nt getting much through.
My other inclination was that Mayweather was landing at a high
percentage and landing them clean while jolting Maidana's head back.

Upon watching the fight, I was wrong on both accounts.
Not only did Maidana bring the pressure, he also got enough clean shots through to both head and body.

While watching the fight, I did'nt see Mayweather's connects landing all that clean. Maidana it turns out brought out great defense himself.
Mayweather was missing shots and was actually having trouble guaging Maidana.

Both these fighters were good defensively in the fight.

Notice the concern on Mayweather's face throughout most of the fight. He was'nt having his way with Maidana and that might have been somewhat of a shock to him.

I believe Robert Garcia did great work with Maidana in the gym and had him learn alot of Mayweather's counterpunch tendencies, because that counterpunch right that Mayweather throws quickly and straight as a arrow was'nt consistently finding the mark like it usually does.

The last thing I have to say is that "body shots" count.
Maidana worked that body and Mayweather was taking notice as those shots were hurting him.

To me, I got the feeling that Maidana was more comfortable doing what he was doing than Mayweather was doing what he was doing.

Take note people, almost every opponent Mayweather has ever fought has the look of frustration on his face through most of the fight.
I dont think I saw that once with Maidana.

Maidana fought his fight, Mayweather fought his, and at the end of the night scoring round by round, my scorecard had Mayweather up 7-5, even though the feel to me was that Maidana caused more damage to Mayweather than Mayweather did to him.
