Mayweather-Margarito-Cotto-Williams = Leonard-Hagler-Duran-Hearns

There is no comparison between between those two generations. Though the current crop are good, the Fab 4 are on another level of skill and accomplishment.

 

So this thread is basically saying that Mayweather is going to come out of retirement and run from Margorito all night...that may be...

 

:good, I think if they were fighting around the same time. Floyd would never jumped to Welter imo. But it's all good because Pryor, Whitaker, Camacho, chavez, and many more were good at 140 to help his legacy if he was in that era. But I think Cotto could hang in that era too, if he worked on his stamina

 

Good point, that no one had previously brought up. Their were allot of good LW's that I think would have kept PBF honest in the 80's. let alone welters like Benitez.

I completely agree with this.

 

You know Mayweather would be my favorite fighter if his mouth would stop moving. However, this is subjective. I do wish he came back in though. In the ring he is class.

 

Margarito is definitely not like Hagler. They are TOTALLY different.

Williams = Hearns? :rofl

Cotto and Duran could have similarities, but Duran is simply much better and greater.

Leonard is great and more flashy than Mayweather.

Watch how Hagler fought Mugabi and watch how Margarito fought Cintron. Both fought off the backfoot and looked to box.

Watch how Hagler fought Hearns and watch how Margarito fought Williams. Both Hagler and Margarito fought as stalkers looking to get inside of the bigger man.

Watch how Hagler fought Leonard and watch how Margarito fought Cotto. Both came forward looking to land by taking punches.

The comparisons are very solid. Hagler might have been more of a boxer/mover in his career but when situations called for it he relied on the same attributes Margarito relies on today. Willpower, durability and strength.

Margarito can't compare to Hagler. Just not the same style.
Hagler was not coming in throwing punches from all angles, he could slip punches pretty damn well too.
The only thing I can accept being close to Hagler's is maybe Margarito's chin.

 

The only way they compare is the fact they both have great chins. Thats it.

Margarito is nowhere near the boxer that Marvin Hagler was. If they were to fight p4p. Hagler would badly, badly outbox Margarito and if they were to fight straight up at 160, Margarito would get stopped after a SAVAGE beating.

 

1. You named two fights at the arse end of Haglers carrer in Mugabi and Leonard.

2. He went after Hearns and destroyed him, Margo lost a UD to Williams.

During the vast majority of Hagler's carrer he was a boxer not a brawler. Margarito is a brawler 1D all the time, effective though it may be.
