Mayweather may hit harder than Pacman @ 147

Then it's kind of a pointless question because the only fight Pac had at 147 was against Clottey and Clottey's sole intent was to protect himself at all times...literally.

 

You can cling to the technically while I take heed to the shelter of logic.

 

Clottey uses his shell against everyone. However, only Manny got him to stay in the shell and never come out. Clottey himself said he didn't feel like he could open up because Manny would KO him if tried to. Clottey is a guy who has never been visibly hurt in any fight I recall and never close to being KO'd and he was worried about Manny's power. Clottey stood and traded with Margacheeto and he wouldn't with Manny? Either he seriously felt Manny's power and worried about not seeing Hatton-KO type punches or he deliberately gave up on the fight.

I would say it's reasonable to say Manny close at this point and perhaps superior to Mosely for punching power. Floyd is not in the same league though I'll admit he looked great against Mosely and appears to be a full grown man at WW now.

If you stood Floyd and Manny in front of a test dummy and asked them to go for pure power on a punch I wouldn't be shocked if Floyd matched or beat Manny on such a test. However as everyone knows Floyd almost never fully commits to any punch he throws. He's like a scratch golfer whacking it 250yds down the fairway every time because he doesn't want to fully commit to a 300yd swing which may go in the woods.

I would go so far as to say Floyd is a harder inside puncher with very short punches. Floyd also may have more power on long range punches than Manny and certainly Shane does. The difference is that Manny has a tremendous power advantage with his mid-range punches compared to Floyd.

I will also agree with what Palo said, and IMO it appears to me that Floyd looks to be very comfortable at the 147 to 154 range. He looked physically stronger than Shane and in some of the roughhousing stages of the fight, kinda pushed Shane around a bit. I'm pretty sure he would do the same to Pac.

 

It's not about the power, per se, it's about punches coming in unseen. That's why Pac's punches have so much impact at 147. No one sees the punches coming.

WHen? Did you see the fight. The best right hand Shane landed was a looping right against his ear that was partially blocked. Then Cotto went on retreat. Shane did not land any bombs on PRIME Cotto.

 

I know the DLH Mayweather fight wasn't at welter but Floyd didn't really gain much weight for that fight, and at one point a right hook from Mayweather buckled Oscar's legs. That may or may not say much.

However, IMO Floyd can punch as hard if not harder than Manny when he wants to. For example, Floyd was throwing some mean punches in there with Mosley, you could see those shots were ill-intentioned, and they were rocking Mosley's head. Floyd was punching harder because he wanted the knockout.

 

With Floyd its the speed he generates and his mechanics that lead to his shots plus his precision.

 

Pac hit harder..

 

Steve Forbes f&cked up De La Hoya's face and he's no hard hitter. But Pacquiao really did a number on Cotto. I think Mayweather hits harder than a lotta ppl think he does, his mentality isn't go for the KO like Pacquiao's is. But I think Pacquiao's def. the bigger puncher. I just don't think he'll land anything on Mayweather if they were to ever fight.
