Speed contributes to power.....doesn't necessiarly equates as power. Case in point Paul Malinaggi. Some fighters just have some really heavy hands. FLoyd times and places his punches well.

Manny is explosive and usually lands shots that you don't see. His punches are NOT like Big George Foreman's punches that can put someone to sleep with one shot....but he's still go deceptive power.

My point is......speed doesn't mean POWER. You have to have a combination of elements wroking together to have power.....or you are just born with it.

One guy has had six fights at the weight, one has had three (including Cotto), there are no common opponents at this weight.

There isn't a great deal to base an opinion on either way, certainly not to the extent that someone should be dismissive if others don't agree.

I agree with your stance I feel that Manny has more power at the weight but I'll certainly allow others to disagree.

Yes, we can prove this by his HUGE KO percentage at WW.:patsch Mayweather is a defensive genius but he does not hit harder than Manny Pacquaio the best offensive fighter in the game right now.

Pacquiao is not faster than Mayweather.

    Based on what?

His fight with JMM where he connected more than half of his punches and JMM was not even marked?

Pacman punches harder than mayweather at any weight. but i do think mayweather is stronger at 147 in terms of grappling, overall bulk strenght, etc.

so although pac can crack harder- i think mayweather at this weight takes a shot perhaps better, can handle the other man stronger- i.e. is generally stronger in every department other than punching. its impossible to gauge such things til theyre in the ring.

and comparing to mosley- well a shadow of mosley isnt accuarte. but i did feel as though may was the stronger, more solid more dense man in the ring that night against shane. although shane could punch harder- much of that is due to the way they punch. floyd never throws with committment and exposure like shane.

mind you, alot of what ive said above can be attributed to balance, and mayweathers superior balance and use of weight than pacquiao- which is how he gains such a nice strenght advantage against seemingly harder stronger men like hatton and shane.

pac is a freak of genetic strength. guys may be stronger and bigger- but punching power is mass times acceleration- and i would daresay on my life that pacquiao is the most explosive (acceleration) man in boxing by far. by far.

thats why he cracks so damn hard. hes just a little nugget of pure , dense, no fat, fast twitch muscle.

Thanks Isaac, how many Newtons do you think Manny punches with?

Although, perhaps you have over simplified this? Maybe?

Punch dynamics has a lot to do with it.

A punch where the power originates in the legs and followed through with truncal movement is much stronger than fast punches that are just using arm power.

With a calves that are disproportionately big, Pac simply punches harder. That is genetics!

    Nah.

Pacquiao definitely hits harder, no matter how you look at it.

    Close thread.
