Mayweather/McGregor Fight Discussion

My best guess of how it will turn out is -

It will be made to look more competitive, Floyd won't immediately go for the KO. Too one sided and short a fight isn't good for business. Floyd will catch McGregnor but not follow up in the early part of the fight.
Floyd will catch McGregor more in the later rounds forcing a TKO (e.g. cuts / corner throws towel in). McGregor might get frustrated later on by running in and getting Ko'ed.
McGregor will save face by comparing himself to other great boxers who lost to Floyd and demanding that Floyd face him in MMA.
The stage will be set for the next boxer v MMA match.

I think I've watched every single interview, read every article, listened to every podcast, etc.. that has to do with this fight. And I think this is the best "analysis", if you can call it that, that I've heard. Very well thought out and I think spot on regarding most aspects..

And (basically) every time, that sneaky, crafty sonofagun had fans booing or silent by the 10th round because he's human hype vacuum. He sucks all of the energy and excitement out of everything because he's mastered what some believe to be the most chicken ****, boring style of winning boxing matches.

As you can tell, I'm very new to boxing. Before this fight was announced, I was actually more of an MMA fan. Basically a hardcore-casual. I know a lot more than the run of the mill casual fan, but I'm more likely to watch the fight the next day on Youtube and then listen to 7 hours of analysis about the fight than to shell out the money to buy it.

But when this fight was announced, I figured I might as well watch Mayweather's last 10 or so fights to get an accurate opinion on the man. I'm not gonna say "Conor has no chance! He's an MMA fighter, fighting arguably the best boxer of the past 20 years!" I wanted to actually experience what Mayweather was all about. Since all I've heard my whole life is that he's a conman who does nothing but run because he's too much of a pansy to actually sit and box like a real man. And I understand that. Someone like Floyd could never be my favorite boxer, because I have a natural preference for the guys that like to sit and bang. My favorite UFC fighter by a massive margin is Cowboy Cerrone, and if you know MMA/UFC, that's what he does. He goes to war for 15 minutes and whether he wins or loses, he likely put on a show.

I should preface that I had prior knowledge of boxing. Even though I had never watched a fight live until 3 weeks ago. I'm one of those "knows a little about a lot" douches. So I had a solid bit of knowledge about boxing before the last 3 months. My stepdad was a massive boxing fan. His guys were primarily Roy Jones and Floyd. I can actually remember watching the Floyd/Hatton all access or 24/7.

In watching Floyd's last decade of fights (and a lot of the all access), I see a guy that, like I said, is a Hype Vacuum in human form. He's so immensely talented at what he does that by the time the fights over, people have convinced themselves that his opponent never had a real shot anyway, even though before the fight, the same questions and predictions that have littered this thread and promotion were present for those fights, too.

I also don't find his fights boring. True, I never paid for them and I COMPLETELY understand why people would be pissed to pay a ton of money for a fight that seems over by the 9th round and didn't have a ton of action leading up to that, either. But I'm pretty entertained by him. I don't see a runner, I see a super computer that boxes.

To be honest, I wouldn't pick any boxer in the world (and obviously, around his weight class) to flat out beat Floyd until someone magically does it. And I'm definitely not gonna pick Conor.

To sum this long winded mess of a first post up, I think I've fallen a little bit in love with the sport. I think I like it more than UFC, to be honest.

And although Mayweather has had some stinkers, I generally enjoy watching him box for his talent and skill level.

He has some more fan friendly, action-filled fights, generally in his younger years. Fights with Jesus Chavez (2001), Philip Ndou, Demarcus Corley, Arturo Gatti, Carlos Gerena. I liked the Miguel Cotto fight a lot too. Cotto did better than expected, bloodied his nose, and made Floyd really work harder than usual, and Floyd opened up with combinations a lot more than usual.
