I think this guy knows he has absolutely no chance against Floyd. You just can't crossover sports like that, boxing focuses on some really small fine tuned things in the aspect of striking and it would take McGregor years to master them. MMA requires a fighter to be much more rounded out, and having too much practice in one area leaves another area weaker. The average person however, probably doesn't realize this, and that's why this fight has so much attention.

However, I think McGregor's true wish is to get paid as much for MMA as Floyd does for boxing. They both generate big number of PPV buys, but McGregor ultimately gets way less % of the revenue than boxing fighters. UFC is its own "League" if you will of MMA, and they have a lot of control over the sport and have turned it into somewhat of a monopoly. McGregors biggest payday to date is only a few million dollars. Floyd under that same circumstance would get probably 25 million. It's no secret that since boxing isn't centralized and promoters are competing for the fighters to be in their stable, they can get much more lucrative financial deals. Where with the UFC, it's the only place to fight for more than a few nickels at a time.

In order to accomplish that, McGregor is playing a game of chicken with the UFC. He is a cultural icon, if he went to boxing, he would get paid more at this point than he makes per fight in the UFC, as boxing pays more. But if I were the UFC I would feel threatened to have my best fighter exposed. If he loses it kind of makes the UFC not look so good. If you are a UFC owner you would NOT want this to happen. But I think in McGregors mind if he can make $50 million in one fight with floyd, its better than taking 15 more UFC fights at $3mil a piece ($3 million is his biggest payday so far). McGregor is thinking about jumping ship from the UFC and if they call his bluff, worst case scenario is he fights Floyd for a ton of money. The other scenario is the UFC brand doesn't want to risk doing damage to itself by having McGregor be exposed, so they pay him more per fight, AND increase his stake in the company so doing whats best for the UFC is whats best for him.

Sometimes I like to analyze the business side of the fight game. What do you guys think of this situation?

He knows he wont win. But the money is simply to good. And he really does not lose because everyone expects him to considering this is not even his sport.

Just like the jump up he made for the diaz fight hel take the loss and say he dared to be great and return to MMA likely with 100m in his pocket.

Orrrrr he might stay and box seeing as theres prob more cash for him in this sport

He's made it clear in many interviews that he plans on retiring young after making his money. Wouldn't be shocked to see it after this and another UFC fight or two. This is it, the most prize money he'll ever see in his career. Isn't about winning(obviously not happening in a boxing match against Floyd) here.

What he is doing is groundbreaking. He is spearheading the movement that will ultimately get UFC fighters out of their slave contracts and gets them paid properly. White is routinely underpaying his fighters, to a point that makes pro-fighting at ufc a matter of pure passion rather than prize fighting. That would of course be fine if the owners weren't making billions off the blood and sweat of the fighters.

Ok utf, we have to ask you a question and you have to be unbiased.

Did you have a problem with Couture/Toney, Sylvia/Mercer, etc?

If you answer no to any of those fights, I'm sorry then you may be a bit of a hypocrite. Not saying you are, but if you supported any of those fights, then there's no reason you shouldn't support this one either~!

Those fights were jokes, especially Couture/Toney. As for taking issue with them? Mercer/Sylvia? Not so much because it wasn't a high profile fight in top org.

I wanted to see Kermit Cintron in the UFC! He offered to fight Sean Sherk, and unlike Floyd actually had a background in amateur wrestling. White/Zuffa didn't even entertain the idea though. Wonder why?
