floyd watches tapes but doesnt study them. He's a boxing fan so he does watch it. He admits to watching it but I think he trusts his own abilities and just adapts in the ring.

u just never no. im sure he watches clips, its not like hes really studyin hes just watchin to see if his opponent really has ne thing too look out for and things he does wrong alot and floyd will work of that.

or floyd could watch tapes of a bunch of fighters before he even picks who hes gunna fight and then based off studyin he picks who he wants to fight n forms a gameplan and wut 2 work on in the gym based of that

Not sure if he actually watches, but if Roger or someone else in camp did theyd have enough knowledge to analyze it and break it down to the point where Floyd wouldnt even have to watch

Floyds a great fighter and if Roger says Cotto likes to jab and left hook im sure he can imagine it in his head and visualize his plan and formulate and game plan without seeing the tape

doing it this way lets Floyd train and Roger study

Damn another good response. :thumbsup Of course he watches fights and fighters, but I don't believe he studies tape like other fighters. Roger probably does, and Floyd has an idea of them from watching their fights, but I don't think he studies them in camp.

    A bunch of hogwash!

The means are there in this day of age to grasp video of any opponent and pick up on fighter tendencies.
Every fighter does it though some dont admit to it.

Juan Manuel Marquez is another fighter like Mayweather who say's he does'nt study tape.
I dont believe for a nano second that he does'nt.

Great minds like Mayweather and Marquez may not rely that what they see on tape is what the opponent will bring with him, but I have no doubt they look, see, and study what types of looks a particular fighter may bring with him against him.

For example, Mayweather would have to be a complete bafooon of an idiot not to study every second of the 3 fights Marquez had with Pacquiao if he were to fight Pacquiao.
Of course Mayweather would study closely the three fights.
He may not implement exactly how Marquez went about it, but he'd study and incorporate certain things Marquez did against Pacquiao into his own gameplan.

Of course Mayweather studies fight film!

Floyd's ring IQ is second to none. He'll be in jail the whole year he can fight and beat anyone in his first day of freedom without knowing his opponent. He can adjust after just 30 seconds in the first round. Fact. :deal

when u get to a certain level...u don't need to study a fighter to know what it is he brings to the table. u can see it from watching one or two fights. floyd is right...it changes with each opponent and it changes when u get in the ring. it's best to be prepared for anything. floyd knows what cotto has....it's one the reasons he retired the first time and waited for him to be diminished some before he faced him. roger watches tapes. they pick sparring partners based on styles that are similar to what it is they are going to face. how else could they possibly do this without having seen their opponent?
