"I finally got a chance to see the guy fight. Congratulations for everything that he's done but even at my weight he can't beat me. I don't knock him. He can't beat me. He can punch, but in his last fight...I don't even know the guy's name, but if I would have worked with the guy - the guy would have beat him. I don't take nothing away from Golovkin. It's obvious that he's done something right. Whoever they put in front of him - he's beat them. He's doing something right thus far..I've seen him fight. Everybody was talking to me about him, so I had to take some time out of my schedule to see this guy. Golovkin goes out and does what he has to do. But at my weight right now, I walk around at 148, 150 - it probably would be a good fight for me, but I'm almost finished [with my career]."

I don't see the fight happening, but at least he's acknowledging that Golovkin exists.

Floyd just doesn't have any good options.

I guess its really a tribute to Floyd, that the only guys thought to be competitive with him after Manny are GGG and maybe Lara. But even many boxing fans have a hard time getting amped up for a Lara fight.

Brook might be interesting, but wont bring the Brits overseas to Vegas in droves like Hatton did. Khan is just a level below. Maybe taking a trip to UK for Brook? But hard to see Floyd really wanting to leave his comfort zone for last couple of fights.

Not a lot of options for Sept.

  6. He looks frustrated when asked about his next opponent because he doesn't really have a good solid one. He blew his boxing load on Pacquiao. People watched them both because we kept comparing the 2, now that it's over, nobody cares.

Floyd would get backed into a corner and get knocked out. He would be absolutely terrified in there with GGG.

Not a fair fight, Golovkin is a fully grown man.

Anywhere between 147-152 would be impossible for GGG. If Floyd was willing to fight at 154 (where he holds a title....) then GGG could do it and still win. By KO.

Ggg would give floyd a life altering beating. His great chin would make him take too many shots before collapsing. This is not the kind of fight May needs. He has to take an easy fight for his last one, like a pac rematch.

I doubt this fight happens. The risk is way too high for a reward level that's way too low.

He can make the same money fighting a naturally sized WW or JMW, and make exponentially more money if he's able to poach one of the big name guys for a September showdown- specifically Cotto, Alvarez or JMM. Even a fight with Bradley would probably do well PPV wise.

Floyd should do an Excusequiao and make GGG fight at 147 so that way it's not technically called a catchweight just like Pac v DLH. After all DLH fought at middleweight.

Yeah pretty much. To grab major attention for his next out, he either needs to goto a new market like UK or do something of a throwback old skool move like SRL fighting Hagler*

Objectively speaking, I think his best bet would be UK versus Brook. Hearn knows what he is doing, and could make a huge huge show in the UK on a massive stadium card that did huge PPV in UK and even Europe. In addition to massive Euro purse, could do a discounted afternoon PPV in US (that would go just to Floyd) at like $40 and make really big money.

*I am not comparing GGG and Hagler, just the best WW fighting the best MW would be big news, and a feat the mainstream sports media talking heads could relate to.

^^You actually think the P4P king is going to go to the UK and fight a nobody??

No offense to Kell Brook, but he's a nobody. Don't bring up the whole Wembley thing, because FLoyd Mayweather could go to London and fight a scrub over there and still sell the place out.

Why would he leave the mecca of boxing? It's every boxers dream to be a headlining fighter in vegas.

Let's think about his, Floyd just made $250M his last fight. He's not worried about doing a big event. And he would make more money fighting Brook in the US. He's not going over to The U.K to fight Brook. That will never happen.
