That's why he has to fight someone interesting. People do want to see him lose, and they used to also watch to compare him and Manny. Well, that line prior to Manny was already wearing thin as then numbers showed - then he fought Manny and settled that question.

I doubt there will be a ton of interest, or many PPV sales (relatively speaking, to even his Maidana numbers) if he fights someone who no one gives a shot to win.

While I doubt Floyd actually fights GGG, they acknowledged his existence for a reason. On some level, they are looking further afield for possible opponents... because Team Floyd knows as well as anyone that they are in a tough spot right now when it comes to generating interest.

You can try to make up whatever you want, but the networks don't decide PPV dates. The promoters do. No one gave Mayweather anything. Had they tried to compete with Floyd, they would've lost.

Mayweather is mentioning GGG's name to draw interest to himself, nothing more. I agree, Khan will draw squat. Brook will draw squat. Golovkin, even though he won't fight him, at least Floyd saying his name makes people interested.

They would've lost, but it would've hurt Mayweather's sales significantly. I don't think you realize how bad Mayweather/Khan will do. I don't even except it to break a million buys. Also, promoters don't demand networks anything. There's discussions on both sides. HBO is a business and they want to make the most money like promoters. There's communication on both sides.

No offense to Gennady, but FLoyd doesn't have to mention his name whatsoever for him to hype up his upcoming fight. I think he was just speaking openly about Golovkin and just gave his two cents on what he thinks of him as a fighter.

Floyd gets a guaranteed 32 million in each of his fights with Showtime. He can literally fight a gatekeeper for his final match with them and he's guaranteed to make that 32 million. He doesn't have to hype up anything for anyone at this juncture in his career.

Its a combination of both really, the network and promoter have to agree on a date.

Also doubt Cotto/Canelo would have lost to Floyd, do you see any Mexican, PR, or general PPV buying fight fan buying Floyd/Khan or Floyd/Garcia over C/C? No, I didn't think so.

Even if that fight did 800k-900k, that would be more than any other PPV that doesn't involve Mayweather. And do you really think Floyd would care much if his sales went down by going head to head with Cotto vs. Canelo? He's guaranteed $32M not matter what and he just made a quarter billion dollars in his last fight. Who would care would be Cotto and Canelo. That's a big payday for them and they are not trying to see it get cut in half.

this is exactly right, for the first time I don't care which bum Floyd fights. He's earned it now.

That's totally possible. He could have just been giving his two-cents.

And yes, 32 million guaranteed. This doesn't include PPV revenue though which is what Networks are interested in.

And 32 million is a lot, don't get me wrong, but Mayweather just made 300 MILLION. He was expected to take home 180 million and he basically doubled that. It will feel like a downgrade, as weird as that is to say.

It definitely would have. You also have to remember that the cable and satellite providers play a role too. They are not going to back Cotto and Canelo over a proven money maker. You have Cotto's own promoter come out and say that they were not going to compete with Floyd. That fight is now going to happen in late November. At a certain point, you can't ignore reality.

I assume he is kidding but how do so many boxers not watch boxing? I mean I have heard this line too many times "I don't even know the guy". How? I am a fan not an active participant and I lnow most of these guys, how can we be this obsessed and someone who actually lives and breathes the sport not be? Just seems odd to me.

I disagree Canelo/Cotto would do less buys than Floyd vs. Khan/Brook/Thurman. Cotto's team don't want to compete with Floyd because they realize some of their buys will be canibalized and Cotto can't afford that in what is likely the last mega-fight of his career, and definitely is if he loses. This is his big cash out and opportunity to set he and his family up for life so he'd like it to be as big as it can possibly be. If he does win, the only other mega fight he could make would be against Floyd so it would be in his best interests to stay on Floyd's good side.

I fully believe Mayweather returns to HBO to end his career and with the right publicity and exposure of GGG to the public, this would become Floyd's 2nd best financial option after a rematch with the Cotto Canelo winner. I suppose routing Khan will have to do until then as I doubt he picks any of the other top 147 lbers for Sept.

Mayweather doesn't often come out and talk about other boxers, let alone in a positive light. Could mean something, likely means nothing. After all, Floyd seems to be putting up a weight roadblock from the onset, even if it was in a subtle manner. He should just request 154.5 and go for it all.

Of course we all know, there is a 99.9% chance this fight never happens. It'd be a painful way to end a great career.

Floyd is going nowhere near GGG.

He has two good options for him to end out his career - Khan and a pacquiao rematch.

Even if the pac rematch sells less than half of what it did the first time (play up the shoulder injury story as best they can) it would still be the second biggest PPV of all time (just ahead of may/canelo).

Wouldn't be so sure about tjat. We've yet to see Golovkin fight under USADA testing. Look how Pacquiao couldn't do anything when tested. He had nothing. GGG might be a beast against less skilled boxers and no testing but on level playing field I think Floyd has a lot more credibility than nuthuggers on this forum.
