Both undefeated fighters had their fair share of haters that wanted them to lose. Both chose a fight that fans thought were easy pickings. Who chose the tougher assignment as their last and final fight to end their solid careers?

Mayweather chose Berto as his final opponent instead of Khan, Brook, Thurman....

Calzaghe chose RJJ as his final opponent instead of BHop II, Dawson, Pavlik.....

Who chose the tougher last opponent?

'Zaggers and it's not even close to being close.

    - 'Zaggers went to his opponent's back garden, Mayweather brought his opponent to his back garden.

    - Both fought known PED disgraces, Mayweather had him drug tested, 'Zaggers didn't.

    - Jones was in the top 10 (rated 6 by The Ring), Berto isn't even in the top 20

    - Jones coming off a win over a first ballot hall of famer, Berto coming off a win against a journeyman

    - Many picked Jones to beat Joe, nobody is picking Berto to beat Mayweather

Plus unlike Mayweather, Joe picked the fight where the biggest money was available where Mayweather is willing to fight a bum for less money than he would've got than the likes of Bradley, Garcia, Brook, Khan, Porter, etc

    Floyd.

Roy was beyond shot in 2008.

Funny how Joe's "fear" of flying disappeared when he wanted to retire. Makes me laugh how, in his book, he states that a fight with Roy isn't worth it and that he's past his prime, yet fights him years later.

    Fraud of the highest degree.

Berto isn't what he was a few years ago, but he's in much better condition now than what Roy was.

How is this even a thread, btw?

    Good points.

    It can also be added:-

    - Calzaghe was fighting his 2nd fight at a new weight While Mayweather has been fighting at WW for a while now.

    - It was Calzaghe's first defense of his paper Ring LHW title.

    - Calzaghe was pretty much past his best as shown in his previous fight vs BHop, while Mayweather looked decent against PacMan.

    Good points.

    It can also be added:-

    - Berto is 31 while Roy Jones Jr was 39

    - Berto last held a legit world title 4 years ago, while Roy Jones Jr last won a world title fight back in 03 5 years back.

    - Calzaghe called Jones Jr shot, while Mayweather never called his opponent shot.

    - Calzaghe said he never wanted hard fights when the topic of Roy Jones Jr came up, Mayweather never said such thing.

    - Berto is the interim WBA world Champ going into this fight while Roy Jones Jr was IBC LHW champ.

    -------------------------------
Weighing up the two I would vote for about the same. But good cases made on either side.

Hindsight is 20/20 and it's easy to point how RJJ was shot now or late in his career, but as it has been stated, RJJ was rated pretty highly. He was coming off convincing wins against Trinidad, Hanshaw, Ajamu and while they aren't elite, they are solid opponents. He then sparked Sheika and Lacy following the Calzaghe loss. So it's not like he was completely shot, he was just not at his prime at all.

Berto is coming off a win against Lopez who is nothing. His career note is the fact that he beat Victor Ortiz.....who was also nothing. Berto is a name and fairly young, that's about it. Other than that, this fight is not a challenge.
