This shouldn't even be a discussion. Mayweather is probably the best fighter in the last 25 years. Have a look at his defense record, i.e his opponent punch landed percentage, it was lower than the great Sugar Ray Robinson's..... The guy is a machine, what would you expect when your uncle Roger was The Ring's Middleweight champion for over a year and your daddy was slapping kids around the ring while overdosed on crack. Its in his blood, nobody out of the current crop of champions will compare to Floyd Mayweather.

Not better than a prime DLH who has a better resume than Floyd.

Corrales and Castillo and Judah and Cotto and De La Hoya and Mosley?

Not all under ideal circumstances but certainly above with that slew of wins.

As complete as Ward is, he falls short of Mayweather.

  8. is that a joke? hatton is better than de la hoya? he's better than cotto? in terms of opposition, mayweather is on another level.

Ward is better now but Floyd of course is more accomplished. Anyone saying Floyd now may be too mesmurized about what he has done and not what he is doing which is being inactive and not giving us the best possible fights.

This alone makes it crystal clear: Floyd. Floyd moved up weight 4-5 classes, against much bigger guys, and continued to absolutely dominate. He is almost always, even today, the smaller guy in the ring.. but still dominating. As someone else said, Floyd's been a world champ since he was 21 years old...while traversing all those weight classes and etc

Ward is also absolutely dominating, but he's never the smaller guy (and if he is it's by a very, very small margin). Yes Ward looks great but let's keep it in perspective. If he moves up a few weight classes over the next few years, then we can revisit the topic.

For now, though, Floyd is very clearly much better.

Ward has yet to have the competition, in my opinion, that would show us he's better than Floyd. People saying Floyd hasn't fought stiff competition or are using his layoffs to justify Ward being better must be unfamiliar with his days at the lower weights.

I do find it amazing that Mayweather critics say he has to fight Martinez, Trout, and/or Canelo when he's not a 154 fighter though he'd be the favorite and most likely dominate them all. Just shows how good Mayweather is and I dont think Ward will get at that level in his 30's if he keeps getting injured. Really the era has faded badly in IQ(in NBA too but another discussion) so Ward is good enough to do that but again comes down to durability.

Again, Ward to me is better now but nothing says he's better than Floyd career-wise as of now. Really Ward is the only one who could match Floyd's career or come close in these times it seems.

Dawson was definitely not at his best, Kessler was unwell and Froch had travelled in 4 of his last 5 fights. Mayweather was willing to step up in weight to fight both Cotto and ODLH. He's not perfect either but he damn sure fights more guys at their best than Ward.
