But it pales in comparison to his footwork on defence.

No, it's not. His footwork I'd good but the defence he has mastered is static. When he is moving, his defence isn't that good. It's when he's on the ropes that his defence comes into play so much, kind of like a reverse Willie Pep.

Honestly, I think if Mayweather stays away from the ropes, Pacquiao's faster hands and feet make it an awfully uncomfortable fight for Mayweather. If he stays on the ropes, he'll get caught and those flashy 6-10 punch combinations will steal rounds.

I don't think you've watched Mayweather fight very much if you haven't seen him use his footwork to maintain his exact distance, spin off the ropes and under punches, and create angles for the overhand right.

Pac has fast feet, but awkward footwork. He gets away with it because he is so much more physically gifted than the guys he has been fighting. I don't think that is the case with Mayweather, and I think he will struggle against a fighter that he can't simply overwhelm.

Floyd doesn't fight in a rhythm either. In fact he speaks specifically to this point in an early interview he gives, stating that he explicitly does not fight in a specific rhythm because it makes you predictable. Both guys will probably have to spend at least a couple of rounds feeling one another out before they are comfortable enough to fully engage.

What fights are you watching. His superb footwork is what makes his defense so great along with his ability to shoulder roll and head movement. Standing in one spot and shoulder rolling after a while is going to get you hurt, you must combine that with great head movement and foot movement which enables Floyd to protect himself and get out of harms way.
Floyd footwork is most definitely a huge factor to his defense I have no clue as to what you are talking about

Mayweather WILL hurt Pacquiao, his accuracy is the key, accumulation damage is in store for Manny.

Pac does alot of triangular footwork, this set his opponent in an awkward angle giving the advantage to pac. You cannot defence against a punch when your body is not in the position to do so while pac position is good for offence.

His footwork reminds me of the filipino martial arts...

Hip Hop can have multiple beats going on at one time. My point was that Floyd rarely looks out of rhythm not that he was predictable.....:deal

Bull****. His footwork does play a part. It enables him not to be in a bad position to be caught by shots or give you and opening. PBF's footwork is just as valuable to his defense as it is to his offense.:deal I agree PBF can fight effectively off the ropes probably one of the best ever at doing so but even there his footwork plays a part of it. He can spin off the ropes when he wants to get away.

I really hope Roach and Pac has seen something in PBF that we all didn't because I can't really see how Pac would deal with PBF's defense.

true but you can say the same thing for pacquiao. when has he ever faced someone with mayweather footspeed? and for all the great fighter hes beaten, when has ever faced a fighter with a defense like mayweather's? your stance can go both ways.

Oh, I'm not saying his footwork doesntbplay a part, but that when he uses his footwork the most, ie when he's in the middle of the ring, his defence isn't great. It's good but not great. It's his work on the ropes which makes him one of the best defensive boxers ever.
