You guys don't get it. Open negotiations are part of the promotion. While drug testing IS a serious issue, it can be sorted out easily, but why should they sort it out easily, if it creates headlines? However, pretty much every writer and fan understanding PPV agree that March - and not May due to Pac elections - is too early for a proper build-up, even if negotiatons create insane media attention. It makes no sense, the best time for PPV is the weekend of 1) Cinco de Mayo, 2) The Mexican Independence Day Mid-September and 3) the end of the year. Mayweather-Marquez moving to September was a move too smart to believe there was a Mayweather injury. I bet there wasn't. In the end, Floyd-JMM was a great success. Once elections are over (after May 15), even if Pac is elected he could do a few weeks of training despite his new job, and I'd say there's about 33% chance of being elected anyway. September 18 is the logical date, the Latino community would love to buy the fight, TR and GBP would have all the time to get the best sponsors, the most media and fan attention and the proper build-up to produce the best boxing PPV numbers ever (De La Hoya-Trinidad did 2.000.000 buys on the same exact day). In the meantime, a keep busy fight sounds logical. Who could blame Pacquiao, coming off a tough, hard fight, getting an easier one next, and Floyd could have a decent keep-busy match-up too (but surely he can come up with something better than Matthew Hatton!). The fight for March 13 was "made" so quickly that it sounded too good to be true, and now it's "falling apart". But just for a few month, believe me, because it's all part of the plan! When promoters will finally "give in" for fan and media demand and pick up negotiations around May-June, it'll be all much bigger. :hi:
Arum is chuffed to bits with the cancellation- as he already has Pac pencilled in, just 4 months after Cotto. Paulie is in effect an extra fight in Pacs career, as Pac only wanted 1 or2 more at top level- so Arum gets an extra payday.
Well I hope it does happen the fight makes too much sense not too. Two top fighters in their prime. I think negotiations will start again with a solid build up if is cancelled for march. It doesnt matter if is in March or later in the year but as long as it happens and isnt left too long like other fights in the past have been.
I believe the fight will happen, I just don't know when. Ideally, I'd like to see Manny Pacquiao face Tim Bradley whether it's at 140 or a catchweight again of some sort, and Floyd face the winner of Berto v Mosley. Then it would also be for the undisputed welterweight championship, assuming neither Pacquiao or Mayweather get a mandatory enforced.
Everyone is going on about Bradley V Pac. I dont think he is ready and what weight will it happen at. Pac probably make him come upto 147 and he will get destroyed. Pac is better off fighting Foreman for another title and then see if he can face the winner of Berto/Shane or get those negotiations with Floyd back on track and finalise it for later in the year
paulie is a good warm up for mayweather anyways he runs a lot but isnt dangerous just sucks for the boxing fans
Im not waiting that long, we were told march, sept is too far away, **** em both if this doesnt happen in march.
This would be the best thing to happen. Pac fight Bradley in March Floyd fights the winner of Mosley vs Berto in June. Pac and Floyd get in on in November 2010. **** that. I would be very happy.
So Bradley isn't ready and Foreman is? Bradley is more than ready, I don't think he'll win but he's got a growing reputation, he's a better fighter and he's more prepared to take on the best than Foreman is. He'll do more for Pac's leverage in negotiations going into a fight aswell, in my opinion, than beating Foreman would. As for weight, maybe Pac can still get down to 140. If not, a catchweight of 143/144.
I'd be more than happy to see that. In fact, I'd be f*cking ecstastic if those 3 fights were to happen.
