Decent analysis. But what you fail to realize is that everyone's workrate drops against PBF and their connect % as well. He's not there to be hit like Hatton and Cotto.:deal Also when have you seen anyone land or attempt 4 and 5 punch combos on PBF....I'll answer it for you no one. PBF has a low workrate because he lands at a near 50% or greater. He will frustrate Pac by not fighting his fight, the only way Pac can win I might add. PBF also has a huge reach advantage. What do you think will happen when Pac lunges in on a guy with longer arms, just as fast hands and the most accurate and best counter-puncher in the sport? He'll pay for his reckless ways time after time. Pac isn't technical enough to beat PBF. he doesn't apply educated pressure. He lacks a jab, cutting the ring off, the inside work, body punching and counetering ability needed to beat PBF. He can only fight one way and when he realizes that coming in balls to the wall and overwhelming PBF with his speed like he does everyone else won't work against PBF then what? He's done it will be a boxing lesson at the hands of the best boxer of this era.

you really need to stop making so much sense, it'll start to make some people around here real mad. I can see pac doing his side to side dance and leaping in trying to fire off a 4-5 punch combo and floyd stepping back and catching him with a left hook/straight right combo all night. I think floyd could win the fight with his straight right alone. Too quick and accurate with it and with the reach advantage he will have combined with his superior footwork it'll be be an easy night. I see alot of people being shocked at how easy FMJ takes care of this.

I agree the straight right is gonna give Pac fits he can lead with it or counter with it. He'll have no answer for it.

And when has Floyd ever looked that great against a southpaw? As great of a counter puncher he is he's never been that adept at countering southpaws. He usually relies on pressuring them and leading with the right hands with left hooks in between.

And I think we have to assume Freddy Roach is quite aware of Floyd's right hand. What happens if Manny neutralizes that?

I agree with Sting, I think Pacquaio is going to overwhelm Floyd. Unless Floyd can really hurt him and back him off, I see Manny slowly breaking him down and hurting him badly maybe midway through the fight.

That side to side dance is precisely what makes this fight worthwhile. While everything you and Pimp C said is true regarding Mayweather's skills ( I just recently went back and watched old Floyd fights and yes, he was truly amazing) there are things to consider when thinking of this fight.

    1) Pac's movement. For the most part Mayweather has fought men who stand in front of him. Pac fights at angles. The side to side dance is precisley what makes Pac hard to hit himself. He attacks and shifts his angle so when one is ready to counter he is somewhere else. His angles make it hard to see his punches coming. Mayweather is a tremendously gifted technical fighter. But tremendously gifted technical fighters sometimes lose to those who don't fit into their past experience in regards to styles.
    2) Pac's speed. Yes, it has been talked about time and time again. Why is that? Because Mayweather as well has never fought anyone quite with the speed of Manny Pac.
    3) The right hook. Yes, Manilla Ice. A funny thing to talk about because it sounds so silly but go back and watch Marquez/Mayweather. Marquez lands the right hand alot. Manny will land the right hook with much more power and speed. Mayweather tends to keep his left hand low. This spot is his weak side.

Yes, styles make fights, but what we have here is a fighter of the type Mayweather has not faced before. It isn't just that Manny is a southpaw, or has incredible footwork (it looks like he's playing basketball), or is the fastest fighter currently with devastating effect (power in both hands), is capable of 5,6,7 punch combinations, has a good chin, and has the stamina to keep at a fevered pace all 12 rounds, it is that he has all of this TOGETHER in one skill set.:deal

Good post. You know I wouldn't be totally shocked if Manny dominated Floyd. Floyd really hasn't faced anything like him. Lets look at the southpaw factor, which is an edge for Manny right off the bat. Floyd has fought 3 southpaws in the past and has looked more vulnerable in those fights then I've ever seen him look. 2 of those were rather mediocre southpaws, and one was pretty decent who was ironically winning the fight until he caved in mentally.

Now Floyd is going to be up against not just any sotuhpaw, but a great one, the best ever.. one who also (as you mentioned) has an incredible workrate, does not stop coming, does not get discouraged, will probably not get hurt. How's Floyd going to deal with that?

The movement is another great point. Castillo commented that Manny has quicker feet then Floyd. Floyd is used to fighting guys who stand around flat footed and walk around like zombies. Manny moves around the ring like a rabbit, back and forth and to the side. Then you have the awkward punch angles. I see the lead straight left from Manny being a great weapon in this fight.

Again I'll mention that Floyd is not the amazing counnterpuncher against southpaws. He has always beaten them by fighting off the front foot and leading with right hands and left hooks. I see that playing right into Pacquaio's hands. It's not easy to counter a southpaw especially one that comes in at awkward angles like Manny.

This is a fight where mistakes is going to cost you. As with all power punchers, Pac has to plant his feet to get full power. If you notice the knockout of Hatton and knockdowns of Cotto, both feet were planted. Floyd knows this, therefore, Pac will hit him however, however, not with both feet planted. In the Trinidad and Hopkins fight, Hopkins stated that he watched Trinidads feet because he knew Trinidad had to plant his feet to get power that is why he was able to get away from the power punches. Believe me, Floyd knows this. Also, Floyd shoots the straight right to the stomach to keep you off balance and will throw the right hook to the body. Floyd is going to throw a lot of stuff that Pac has not seen. We will see if he can make the adjustments because he will need a plan b,c, d, e, etc. I cant wait.

you say floyd hasnt looked good against southpaws etc but when has manny looked good against a solid counter puncher? JMM is arguably the best couter puncher pac has faced and yet despite all that speed you talk about he's still 1-0-1 against JMM and that one victory isnt exactly universally recognized in that many thought JMM won. Speed/southpaw stance means jack all when facing a precice and accurate counter puncher as seen in the JMM fights. FMJ is JMM x2....bigger, stronger, more accurate, better footwork, better technician, etc. Since pac/JMM2, manny has yet to face a top tier counterpuncher which is why he has looked so successful. Pac-Floyd will look like pac-JMM2 but more of a decisive victory for the quick accurate counter puncher.

These are good points and I think Freddy Roach knows all of these things as well and will prepare Manny properly. That's why he has said "we'll have to come in with a different style." He's very, very smart, and knows Mayweather better then probably anyone outside of his own camp.

Pacquiao mainly just need to be concerned with the straight right hand. The body punches from Floyd won't bother him . Cotto hit him over and over again with body shots and they had no effect. Pac just needs to avoid the right or at least be prepared to take a few of them. He's shown that he has no problem taking punches from a big welterweight.

as Sting explained , Floyd isn't Marquez nor does he fight anything like him. Marquez has a good work rate. He throws 3-4 punches at a time and backs you off. Floyd these days throws 1-2 punches at a time the most. His workrate is even lower against southpaws. Marquez also fought an inferior version of Pacquaio. He's improved immensely, even sicne the second Marquez fight.

Let me just ask you: how does a mediocre southpaw like Demarcus Corley land so many flush punches on Mayweather, stun him multiple times, and stagger him badly, and yet Pacquaio isn't going to be able to touch him?

Don't hold your breath. pac wants this fight, so does Roach, they wanted it before the Cotto fight, but Void refused. Roach sees something.

March is too early for Pac in my opinion but he and his team definitely know best. Pac needs one easy fight at least before this one yet it doesn't seem he will take that approach.

    Diaz(new weight)
    DLH
    Hatton
    Cotto

    and now Mayweather. Insane...
