    -------

We started talking about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight in early 2010. Almost three years have passed and there is no fight. The appeal is lost. Fans barely care, though it would have a lot of success as a PPV.

But they need to reboot the campaign. They need to make it hot again. Mayweather-Pacquiao must be considered one of the greatest fights of all time, again.

How? I hope Arum and the other promoters are smart.

Make them fight once or twice against popular fighters and destroy them. No more catchweights. The Ring Magazine should still rank them tied for the #1 P4P. HBO, other publications and the media should make this fight more valuable in the fight fans' head.

After that, in late 2013, Mayweather-Pacquiao.

The ship has sailed for this fight.

Now, it would be on a par with Leonard / Hearns II. (Hearns was badly jobbed in that one).

Keep delaying it will be as meaningful as Jones Jr / Hopkins II.

This comparison is such an insane extreme. This is just dumb to say.

    P4P #1 vs. P4P #2 = two 40+ guys, one of which is a corpse coming off a KO1 loss

ESB at its usual, woo hoo!

Think that guy means if they keep dragging it out Pac will keep losing and therefore the fight will become pointless, but I agree ridiculous comparison.

If they sign contracts this forum will go crazy, the hype is there already.

They can't, it will never be as hyped up again, too much time wasted and too many things have happened, namely Pac has lost.

    Deal with it

Funny how everyone always says they don't care anymore but you know damn well if they signed the contract then you'd be chatting about it like a little schoolgirl.

It's already over, pressure fighting leads to shorter primes because it is more physically demanding.
The longer Mayweather waits the more it becomes an one sided win for him.

    Floyd is past it.

Pac is even more past it.

This fight is getting more and more meaningless by the day.

they are both past their respectful primes

the fight really means nothing as of now i mean if floyd wins even if he dominates pac fans will continue to argue that in his prime pac would have beaten floyd

and vise versa if pac won

pacs last 3 performances have been stinkers... if floyd was cherry picking the fight would have allready been signed by now

i think this backs up what most fans know that bob arum is stopping this fight

How can Pac be P4P #1 or 2?

His last two performances have hardly been stellar. He's won 1 and lost 1.
Some would say he's really lost the last 2. Personally, I think the results were the wrong way around.

And I said NOW its like Hearns Leonard 2.
Keep waiting and it will be like Jones Jr Hopkins 2. If they leave it another couple of years theyll be what? 37 and 35, 36?

Pac is 34 in 4 months. That's old for a lower weight fighter, especially one whose main edge over his opponent is physical.

    That's never coming back.

We saw how Jones Jr collapsed once he lost the physical tools that set him apart. I'm not saying Pac will fall apart so badly, but once he loses the ability to fight to the physical level of the past, he's going to get a hiding. He doesn't have the technique of Mayweather who can compensate for fading speed, stamina etc.
