If I want to know about something in boxing and you don't know the answer to it, don't see the value in it, doesn't mean you don't gotta get all defensive and hostile. Alright champ? We can't all be as good as you:-(

The black kid and white kid are HORRIBLE - knock out waiting to happen. The little white kids routine is decent as is Rogers

Basically its about building up your radar ability to block and parry shots at high speed from all angles and is usually in a pre-set routine, but the routine can be random, which is more beneficial, you need to do it with someone who knows what they're doing otherwise they'll be **** poor like the top 1s.

WHAT PEOPLE DONT UNDERTSAND ABOUT THIS ROUTINE IS IT TRAINS YOU TO KEEP YOUR HANDS UP FOR A LONG PERIOD AND KEEP YOU DEFENSIVE FOR A LONG PERIOD - which most boxers don't do

The answers on this thread are silly. No you won't become Floyd Mayweather but it should improve your defense and stamina. Sparring helps defense too, but do both

You don't do drills like this by themself. This isn't the only pad routine you should do, you should also be using pad routines for power, the Mayweathers do pad routines for power too, you should also spar, do bagwork, do roadwork, do strength work and become proficient in all areas. Training isn't always rocket science its about improving all facets of your game gradually as much as you are capable of and continual improvement

absolutely wrong .. Defense can be thought and should be thought to fighter before they start sparring, not teaching a fighter defense is like not teaching them how to punch, letting your fighter learn this on there own leads to bad habits .

hitting the pad as hard as you can will not teach you power, power is gain threw mastering your technique and proper balance a skill that is lost with a lot of fighters today.

mit work is strictly for technique, trainer can have a first hand look at his fighter's balance and control as they go threw combination punching and defense technique.

    Average skilled fighter :huh

Average skilled fighters are fighters who refuse to put in the time necessary learn new technique to improve there skills ..

I myself hate it when new fighter and seasoned fighter come and whale as hard as they can on the mits , there's a reason you have a heavy bag,and its a lot more resilient then my wrist .

Ofcourse constantly drilling your hands high helps you keep them up in a fight you ******ed ****, its the exact same principle as speed ball. Try doing it for 5miniute drills, with 1miniute breaks and see how long you can do it, its called boxing specific stamina. You come on this thread critisising left right and centre when you know **** all about real boxing

 remember when you posted in the training section and got your ass owned?

theres no such thing as boxing specific stamina!:rofl

the mayweather style pad drill is to work on reflexes, pay attention the next time you watch floyd training, when roger taps his elbow he immediately throws a counter right uppercut, when roger hits his left shoulder he immediatly rolls his shoulder and throws a counter straight right, its all reflexes.

oh and btw how many fighter that employ that type of pad work drill and shoulder roll actually keep their hands up?:hey

Mit work helps you to develop your power and technique, THE TWO THINGS GO TOGETHER. That is the boxing school I know and it suits best for guys with average skills. Trinidad, Hagler, Tyson, Mosley, Gatti, Michalchewski ...they all hit the mits with full impact. Now, you may very well have learnt to use the mits differently if you have indeed seen a gym from inside as you pretend but your general statement above is incorrect.

The pitty pat stuff on the mits may help you to improve your conditioning, that is about it. Do you think you can learn to box like Mayweather or Mohammed Ali who are naturally gifted? What are you gonna do with it in a real fight or in real sparring ? You got to throw some hard shots to get your opponents respect or you are gonna get hurt very soon. You practice to throw hard shots on the mits, end of story.

I think the reason you don't see many people doing it is that it's no more than showboating. Mayweather is the only person that does it and even then I think it's more confidence building and for the cameras than anything else. Maybe hand/eye coordination, possibly. If there was a major benefit you'd see people doing it up and down the gyms, world class trainers would be employing it. You don't and they don't.

It does look good though, impressive especially to those that don't know much about boxing.

Exactly, great post and that last sentence says it all. It looks good for the media press before a fight but it does not help you in real fights or sparring.

    1. No I dont remember that, I only remember posting about supplements on the training board, and no one knows more about supplements than myself, so I doubt I was owned, however if you've made 18,000 I imagine you've been owned 18,000 times

Nice duck though, you haven't added anything to this thread apart from trolling

    2. Are specific movements used in boxing dumbass? YES, are specific muscles and the muscle conditioning of those muscles by practising movements to the point of VO2 maximisation critical to performing these at a higher capacity than your opponent, ofcourse

    3. I said it helps reflexes, it also makes parrying making parrying and countering natural, and helps keep your hands up and keep your hands busy. Learn basic reading comprehension where you read all of someone's posts, not just the bits in capital letters.

    4. Well Mayweather for 1 keeps his hands up if he has a full guard (which he does at times), if he shoulder rolls, his right is always up, his hands are always ready to parry/counter and he never tires to the extent where he hasn't got the stamina to parry/counter/slip

What Roger wants from the specific drill is a way of making a high output punch rate , in combination with staying mind sharp , keeping elbows and head movement in check.. Its not a particular corriographed routine.. Its a slapbox set of punches thrown at high speed where Roger occasionally makes the fighter use his witts by slapping towards (Ribs... Elbows, head height swings for bobbing.. so on and so on..) I think its great for a 3 minute drill.. It makes the fighter work like he would against an opponent.. Next best thing to sparring.. great CV workout too..

Regular Mitt work is more for Power and form.. (a lot more precise and solid..)

That is part of why Floyd was so slippery and aware of punches coming at high speed for every angle.. You do it for long enough it gets to be second nature....

See that was a decent post. You still came off an ******* but you included useful information at least.. don't see why you couldn't have said it from the start instead of trying to prove you have a large e-****.

I agree as mit work is for the basics power, form and technique.
A few people including me think that the mayweather pitty pat mittwork mainly serves conditioning. You made some valuable points that it may have other purposes. Maybe you are right, maybe not. Fact is I do not see Mayweather ducking under the left hook like that in his fights.

You might agree with me that this mittwork only suits fighters who fight a particular style ,the Mayweather style. There are without doubt only very few fighters who can use that style effectively in sparring and fights. The average guy who works in the gym can not play Mayweather, Toney or Mohammed Ali in sparring. If he does that he is gonna get hurt as we all know this is not game.
