Yes, they did. Rewind several years, and people were literally sounding the death knell for boxing when Oscar put on his promoter's hat. Also, genuinely caring doesn't mean one is necessarily going to do a better job than someone whose only care is about the bottom line. Also, you don't get the vibe that Oscar is full of **** pretty much every time he opens his mouth? If he weren't a boxer and didn't have those matinee idol looks to fall back on as a model or gay porn star or something, he'd have been a used car salesman.
Not the best for the fighters but good for the sport. Maybe. I'll go ahead and throw the UFC example out there. It's hard to question who the best are when it comes to MMA. 90% of the best fighters in any given weight class fight under the UFC. But they don't make as much as the top fighters, given that sometimes being a top fighter means you're vastly overpaid against overmatched opponents or you're overyhped and overpaid. The theory is the UFC will eventually start paying their higher ranked fighters more now that they have mainstream support and coverage. BUT. Boxing seems to function differently. They'll sell you on a guy with an undefeated record if he's flashy or if he's been putting on highlight reel KOs, even if he hasn't been fighting the best. the record of a fighter is too damn important and too tied into their worth. So say one promotional outfit does take over. Eventually you'll have the best fighting the best in a weight class but the pay scale would have to shrink. I think too many people would ***** and complain despite the exposure they're getting and would still try and refuse to fight others. That's my disjointed theory at least.
Yes good post. Me and my firends are always complaining about fights not coming off. Here in England, we have a number of good upand coming fighters in the same division. But because they are under differant management, they won't fight each other. Using the excuse "we'll let it brew, and fight when one of us have a title" Meanwhile they both keep taking on over matched opponents so they can keep there undefeated records and score another KO for the highlight reel. Me and my friend are like F that, just fight each other, who cares if one of you loses, You can fight again in a few years for a rematch. But unfortunatey boxing doesn't work that way.
yes know what you eman about full of ****. I do get that. but when you look what he was like as a fighter. He took on everyone, defets didn't matter, and i feel he made fight for the fans. Compared to floyd, who will openly admit that the most important things are most money for minimum risk.
Indeed it does not. I think it's mostly the promoters selling the fans on an undefeated record and eventually, the fighters got that into their heads. The best rarely fight the best anymore because legitimately good fighters are too busy being passed over or avoided for the sake of the artificially great fighters. Someone in the UFC is going to be hyped on their record and get a rude awakening when the hype bubble is popped. And it's because we've made losing such a terrible black mark for someone to take. But eventually if you fight everyone you're going to lose.
WRONG....Deandre is going to fight K9...That fight deserves its own date, but Floyd almost put it on the undercard to may 5th fight...but deandre did bad in his last fight, so I think their going to let him get a tune up on ay 4th, and fight K9 later on...and jess fights TOP guys...Floyd puts his guys in their with great opponents...well its been early, but so far so good
I will add that although I think his fighters will fight top opponents, I also think MP will NOT be huge as you think...jesse and deandre will lose very soon, then Mayweather wont have any fighters...its hard to be a promoter...Floyd has no idea...You have to build the fighters up, but at the same time get some great legitamte wins under their belts, so they can lose at any time, then the fighters have to be draws...MP wont make any money because the fighters have to draw....and its hard to get a good fighter and expect everyone to pay to see him....
Fights will be harder to make. There's counting demands and off the ring circus show (Choking, disrespecting rivals) and countless issues not making the fight happen coz mofo will have a tantrum about anything.
Even if Mayweather puts his guys in with the best some idiots on here will say that he's rushing his prospects and giving his fighters bad style match ups. look at Golden Boy they have been slated for a lot of their fighters losing over the last couple of years. Ive even heard of an apparent Golden Boy curse. You can't win.
Maywaether already said they wont go too big. They will have a set number of fighters so all can be treated equal and get equal care.
