All this talk of who was P4P No2.... Joe or Pac.
Well a re-think is in order with the retirement of Floyd.

I know its gonna start this whole debate off again about Joe and Pac's resume's etc, but its essential to my well being that we go through this.....

So lets get down and dirty, is Joe Calzaghe now P4P No1 in the world ?

No, Pac is No.1....but Joe C is solid in No.2

We can all argue about the validity of the result, or the fact that some opponents may have been past their best, but the fact is:

Pac fought Barrera TWICE and beat him TWICE

Pac fought Morales THREE times and beat him TWICE

Pac fought Marquez TWICE and beat him ONCE and drew ONCE.

Never mind all the rest of the decent quality opposition.

Joe C's wins against Eubank, Reid, Kessler, Hopkins and Lacy isn't close to Pac's acheivments.

    This is just my opinion.

The past cant be changed for Joe now but would wins over Pavlik and Dawson swing things DM...?

Those two wins would be massive for Joe, but then you are still relying on Pac messing things up against his new bunch of friends up at Lightweight. I can't see David Diaz causing an upset, but Pac could conceivably lose to Casamayor, Campbell or Marquez (who is moving up as well). If that happens.....:think

I think he would still need another big win on top of that to threaten Pac and Joe. But you are right in that a win over Margo definetly brings him into the reckoning and sets him up for a shot at the No.1 spot.

Pac beats Diaz definately, Campbell and Guzman are problems for Pac imo, then again Pac wants Hatton after Diaz so might not be waiting around for those guys.

By the time he fights Hatton, Joe could be retired plus he gotta get past Hatton, not an easy task at 140....

Cotto does have to be in the mix, he will beat Margarito IMO but the reason not included because for me he is No3.

One thing though which i discussed with someone last week, scale Pac up a bit and scale Joe down a bit and make the Fantasy Fight...who wins.. for me Joe beats Pac, this must be relevant to P4P rating

Well if you break it down in P-4-P boxing terms:

    Power: Pac

    Speed: Pac

    Workrate & Stamina: Joe C

Chin: Pac I would say, but I'm open to counter-arguments.

Jab: Joe utilises his better (Pac's has got better in the last few years)

Defence: Neither of them is very good; Pac probably has the better head movement (just because his body jerks about so much), but Joe has the better footwork. Pac dives in and out too much, leaving himself open to counters, while Joe is more willing to hit and hold in the last few fights. Both are too fond of blocking punches with their face, but they still retain good reflexes despite their style of fighting.

Overall, P4P, I would have to go for Pac. The two men are well matched in most areas, but I think that Pac posseses the faster and harder punch.

Joe is the better fighter but taking everything into consideration such as accomplishments, resume etc I think Pac just shades the #1 spot.

Should Pac lose against Diaz and Calzaghe beats Pavlik when it comes off it would change though.

    1. Pac
    2. Marquez
    3. Calzaghe

But I say we leave it a few months to see if Mayweather is actually retired.

Why? He says he's retired, so take him out. If he comes back at some future point and demonstrates a level of performance then he can go back in.

Interesting. I would say Joe is number 1!

He is undefeated and linear at 168 and 175. His last two fights were WBC/WBA Kessler and then Linear Hopkins.

    That is some serious ****!

J M Marquez. He was separated from Pac by one point on one card. Many people felt he beat Pac. He was above Calzaghe before the Pac and Hopkins fights and he was more impressive against Pac (who was rated much higher than Hopkins) than Calzaghe was against Hopkins.
