Never a man with such a will like Ali. It's interesting that you feel so strongly about this, though. Ali was definitely the most exhausted fighter, per se. But I still think he would've gotten out and continued to batter Frazier till the bell. There's nothing wrong with Louis over Ali. In fact, it's nice to see younger (I don't know your age but this generation) fans have a greater appreciation for Louis. Ali is coveted as the GOAT in terms general casual fanfare (Not just at HW). While I think Ali was better and greater, I do sometimes have some trouble reconciling Ali ahead of Louis on a P4P scale considering Louis was a smaller HW. Maybe it just speaks more about the HWs being a little overrated as a division, instead.
I dont know enough about Locche to form an opinion. I dont know if he fought the best. If he had a dominant reign. If he beat some greats ect. I mean his style was pretty. He won a over a hundred fights and didnt knock barely anyone out so thats amazing. But in terms of where he stacks up to the likes of Pep, Whitaker and mayweather who are more well known and documented I dont know. I'll need to do some research to form an accurate opinion on the man. I did the same with greb a few years ago when I finally found out why this guy was considered such a badass and one of the greatest if not the greatest fighter ever.
Umm ... Most boxingfans realize that Floyd would woop Pac, but head to head abillity and accomplishments are two different things. Pac is above Floyd in terms of resume, and quite clearly that is. So it is you who dont know what you are on about.
Pavlik is tall and has long arms.. He's going to get his shots in on any fighter as small as Serge is; Serge still picked him apart and gave him an ass whooping. He was robbed in the Cintron fight and everyone knows it. Paul Williams is another tall and long fighter that throws a bunch of punches, still I thought Serge won the first fight and we all know what happened in the second. Barker is yet another taller fighter with a reach advantage who tried a defensive gameplan and failed.. honestly he would have gotten stopped a lot sooner if he would have thrown punches and the only reason people think that fight was even slightly competitve was because he broke Serge's nose, BUT in reality Barker really won about 2 rounds before being stopped. We can nitpick any fighters accomplishments and make excuses as to why they looked impressive or did not look impressive including Floyd and Pac, but the bottom line is the end result.
Its true any fighter can be nitpicked. Martinez is good but he looks a lot more vunerable to me then Floyd. I am not an exspert but I think Martinez style will not work against Floyd. I think someone like a prime Pavlik would give Floyd more problems then someone like Martinez. In my opinion only someone bigger then Floyd could beat him right now and it would take great pressure to do it. Your not going to out box Floyd. It takes a size advantage great power and pressure. Martinez is not a pressure fighter.
I don't have time to read 7 pages of this. Are you really getting mad at a boxer for self promoting? Is Mayweather the first to call himself the best ever?
Actually Ali said that too. He said once he was gone boxing was dead. Bigger then the Superbowl ect. Infact there have been plenty of boxers from Dempsey to Ali, to Tyson to Oscar, to Mayweather to Pacquiao who've had that label placed on them. "Once such and such retires boxing is dead" Nope still here. :yep
No one who really knows much about boxing history would mention Mayweather when talking about the greatest boxer of all time P4P, the quality of resume just isn't there to put him in that discussion, despite the fact he's enormously talented. Calling him the best defensive fighter of all time isn't so ridiculous, however. He deserves to be in that argument.
Has definitely NOT devolved overall compared to Pep and Locche's time...that was way too long ago...it has devolved from the Hagler/SRL time perhaps.
