Chavez did well enough and inflicted enough damage that he's a serious candidate for third place on my list of Floyd's toughest fights. Castillo and Cotto are one and two, respectively.

You never bought the hype Floyd shined Burton up with, then?

    Can't, really? :?

You don't think it would have been possible for Mayweather of all people to be more negative than he was?

He didn't exactly set about his work with a Dirrell vs. Stevens approach.

I don't think the two statements necessarily have to be mutually exclusive at all.

Burton definitely fought him hard, and gave him some rough moments. It's definitely one of May's toughest fights and he does deserve his props.

That being said, I think Chavez was a bit more competitive throughout his fight with Floyd, and lasted longer against a better version of Mayweather. That's what gives him the edge, imo.

Brings up an interesting point, though...

Mayweather's actualy been in a fair number of firefights over the years. Even as early as his second fight, he was faced with a determined Reggie Sanders who fought him hard throughout the entire four rounds. Hector Arroyo gave him some trouble too...at least until Mayweather acclerated and took him out. So, any questions about Mayweather's ability to stay composed under fire have long since been answered, imo. :deal

Oh, and if we're saying the poll results might be skewed by Ricans or people a bit over enthused and adrenalized from last weekend...surely we must make the counterbalancing point that it's likely to be just as skewed by people who maintain this:

...and of course almost every single voting Mexican by default. :yep

Why doesn't Floyd walk out to this?

    Seriously. Listen to the lyrics.

wait a second here, Cotto fought a 35 year old Floyd, can we really be saying this? had he fought the Floyd that Castillo or Augustus faced he would have been starched he would not have done as well

The thing that edged Cotto into the #2 rather than Augustus is the fact that he just won more rounds (in my opinion) than Augustus did. That was my main factor for deciding which took the #2 since Castillo was a lock for #1 on this.

He was past it himself. So of course you factor in Floyd's age and the according degradation of his talent, but you can't not also do the same for Cotto. So when you make those adjustments, it still works out to be as fair a shout for toughest fight as if Cotto had given him just as tough a fight six years ago.

Wow, people really have different ideas of what quantifies as tough. In a boxing match, I would quantify it as how much you got hit. That's why Cotto doesn't rank up there with me.

Castillo bet him and got robbed, Cotto gave a good effort, did well but clearly lost 116-112.

    Castillo < Cotto < Augustus.

Nobody has ever landed the left jab on Floyd that stiffly or that often, not even Oscar. :think

As Merchant pointed out during the broadcast, Floyd prides himself on being nigh on unjabbable.
