HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg released a four-paragraph, five-sentence statement Monday which cast doubt upon the veracity of Floyd Mayweather Jr.; Mayweather’s best friend, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe; Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer and which forever eliminated any doubt about Mayweather’s intention: He’s ducking Manny Pacquiao.

This kid was possessed of greatness. Problem is, he’s not a kid anymore. He has no injury. He has no excuse. The fight game is only as big as its biggest fight. So don’t decry the state of boxing. Decry the state of Floyd Mayweather. That’s the problem.

“If (Mayweather) wanted to fight him, he’d be fighting him,” said Mosley.

Translation: He doesn’t want to have anything to do with Pacquiao.

hard to call a fighter scared. i believe he just doesn't want to fight. like he said, he's lost the urge. proof is in him having said in two interviews after beating mosley that he was retiring for 1-2 years, and of course that "see ya, i'm on vacation" statement. not having fought in almost a year backs that up and with a soft touch and safe option like spadafora being looked at as a comeback opponent further confirms this for me

Funny how Floyd takes conveniently timed breaks from boxing like the fake retirement in 2008 when the welterweight division was stacked with fighters seemingly in their very prime: Margarito, Cotto, Mosley, Williams.
