Greater fighters than Mayweather could box and take nothing in return while putting on an entertaining display.
Forrest for example. Boxed him at a comfortable distance, worked the jab often, and landed huge right hands on Baldomir's thick skull. Didn't have to put on an ultra-defensive, potshotting, unbelievably boring performance the way Mayweather did.
How did I not even mention Forrest? Forrest threw a ton of combo's and won every round basically as Mayweather did, not only that, but Baldomir looked a little sharper at 154 when he fought Forrest than his 3 147 fights with Judah, Gatti and Floyd IMO, evidently sharper. Weight issue's, Baldo's a big guy. But the fact remains, Forrest showed great defence, great offense and was reasonably entertaining to watch(maybe not for casuals, who like wars only generally), but for people who like precision boxing and good technical displays, he gave us what we wanted in a fight where he was ignorantly a slight underdog.... and people want to say Forrest is overrated! To me, pot shotting and running is not precision boxing. Just another example of where Joy Boy is massively overrated, the fans will excuse that horse**** fight as 'incredible skilled boxing', when I can give you examples of it. That was 'safety first boxing, executed by an extremely talented fighter', not 'incredibly skilled boxing'. Forrest is arguably more skilled than Floyd when comparing styles, IMO. Watch me get flamed for saying so, he doesn't have those kinds of physical gifts.
so what about the hatton fight.. outclassed him and then knocked him out!!! where was the black eye for boxing then!! he Put on a great promotion plus a great fight some of you guys are jut reaching
Sure, he outclassed him, but let's look at how and who the opponent was. For the first 6 rounds he stunk the place out with Hatton and Hatton wasn't even allowed to fight his regular fight, yet controlled the pace and distance, that's a MAJOR negative against Floyd. Then around the 7th he started actually fighting the fight he should have and opening up on Hatton, in the 8th nearly took him out, horrible 9th, then in the 10th KOed him. So, he set up the KO well, but that doesn't erase that it was mostly a **** fight and Floyd came in there initially to fight another safety first display, not a PRECISION boxing display, a safety first Cory Spinks style display that is effective, but horrible to watch when the guy can do so much more, he's seriously one of the best combination punchers I've seen in a while.... Doesn't erase that the fight was **** overall, even though I enjoyed seeing Hatton KOed. I was rooting for Floyd people! where was the black eye for boxing then!! Great promotion, **** fight with a good ending. Not at all, this guy is nearly unanimously considered the best in the sport and is therefore a medium for the sports voice to the world, he disapoints. DLH always gave great fights, performed at a higher level at that and I'm a critic of DLH, but I give him the credit he deserves. Floyd's overrated, I will not let this up, he is incredibly overrated, not on the level that people think.
no way do i think Floyd is overated & you as boxing fan can appreaciate the complete package when you see one, because most rationale boxing fans do his fighting style is not blood and guts but is effective 39-0. His defence style of fighting is a preference and he shouldnt be criticised as he has not yet lost with it (dont fix what is not broken) but i do undertsand your point as he could open up a lot more and do much more in a fight but ask your self this why put yourself at risk when you dont have to, to win a fight. If your genuine with your self, you know the answer to that question
Complete package?:rofl Am I asking for blood and guts? I prefer precision fighters with great defence over anything, but I do not prefer safety first fighters in the same instance. My 3 favourite now is Calzaghe, Mijares and Guzman, all precise fighters that are very skillful and outclass opponents with skill and physical gifts, all 3 are also very entertaining. Lost to Castillo first go around, definitley. His defence style is not as impressive as either Toney or Whitaker's defence style, it's more in tune with Hopkins' boring displays as of recent. He was never in risk against Hatton or Baldomir, I can forgive for DLH though, DLH has the power to put him away. And why against Hatton and Baldomir? Maybe because he's being paid multi-millions to fight, people watch boxing to be entertained. Precision boxing, coupled with great physical displays, is entertaining to casual fans also, see Roy Jones and James Toney fights. I am genuine, I love skillful boxers over brawlers, I'm rarely entertained by sloppy wars.
Can you explain how his heart is overrated as that is what every one iscrictical about. PBF has no Heart, he shows no Heart etc Actually his heart you will say is underated. You shouldnt question his heart just his lack of using his abilities to the fullest
I have never asked any pure boxer to go toe to toe, but I expect more than pot shotting and safety first. Watch a Whitaker fight, showed possibly the greatest defence of all time while throwing at a very high workrate, the results were entertaining. Whitaker rarley went toe to toe, but he throughly outclassed opponents using ALL of his ability, his defence was awe inspiring, as was his precise offensive work, despite a lack of big punching power, which is irrelevant, he BRUTALISED guys often. Who watches Whitaker do what he did and was not entertained? The two fights with McGirt were great fights for example.
I tend not get involved in forums. as it is determined on opinions and you cant change a mans opinion. if you doubt mayweather is not the complete package in boxing (except power). then thats your opinion but i see no better fighter than him in the fight game now. Mental Boxing IQ Game Plan Technique Condition Defence Offence on all attributes he will be in the top 3 currently in boxing and that to me is complete
