This fight would be wrong on so many levels, the easy points are - malignaggi has done nothing to get this shot - there are other fighters that should be getting it - it would be yet another fight where Mayweather fights someone with almost no danger to him - ect, ect, ect.

Those are all easy to see and if someone is fair minded, they know them to be true, so let me bring up something entirely different.

You basically say that with Mayweathers and Malignaggi's talking ability, they will be able to sell this fight.

Does boxing really need another fight that the public buys into only to be dissapointed? nobody is going to come away from a Mayweather vs Malignaggi fight breathless or excited and saying 'damn'. It would be yet another case of people buying into a mayweather fight hype, then go away saying why did i buy a boxing ppv again?

Dont get me wrong, if mayweather had already fought bradley and williams and he needed a quick opponent, i would actually like to see them box it out, hell id even like to see mayweather spinks for the hell of it just to see their skills on display.

But after the implosion of boxings biggest fight, and both these guys in the spotlight right now, Mayweather vs Malignaggi would hurt boxing more then help it at this point.

    IMO

In boxing talk isnt cheap. It does sell fights.

No your right boxing dosnt need another fight for casual to buy into.... but think Clottey is a very good opponent for Pacman to fight, but people dont know him... and think hes **** (which he isnt)

I reckon it could be an intresting fight... no one would have said paulie v cotto would have been that great... then look how it turned out. If malignaggi puts in a performance like that and then the mayweather that turned up to fight Gatti, Corrales and JMM showed up whos to say the causal fan wont leave breathless.

No one knows Bradley or Paul Williams... People know malignaggi... and thats what boxing needs right now... known fighters fighting eachother

When i say that i mean the public doesnt need to buy into another fight, i mean it in they are buying into the 'hype' only to come away dissapointed, i cant remember the last time the public would come away from a Pac fight dissapointed, and regardless of the publics opinion of Clottey, i garuntee you the fight will be a better fight then a Mayweather - Malignaggi one.

    Bottom line

Pac fighting someone the public doesnt know and doesnt like but the fight is good and leaves people leaving happy

    is better then

Two slick talkers who will talk big and people tune in and then they put on a track meet and the big mass of people that tuned in come away dissapointed

Ya it would be interesting, problem is Malignaggi shouldnt be anywhere near this fight, it should be Bradley or Williams.

No it wouldnt, your comparing apples to oranges. Mayweather was ABLE to fight like that against Gatti because gatti comes in flat footed, there to be hit with everything, is offense minded, ect, ect....

Both Mayweather and Malignaggi thrive with an opponent that will create the oppenings and walk into their counter punching and outboxing ability, cotto is a search and destroy type fighter (at that point in time) and it clashed wonderfully with Malignaggis counterpunching, slick boxing style.

Not to say it wouldnt leave a lot of boxing fans breathless (i tend to like when two boxers box it out, Judah vs Spinks are two of my favorite fights) but no.... for the situation at hand, its not what the public should get right now.

    No, its not.

As always, boxing needs the best fighting the best, the most deserving getting the chances they have fought for, and not the tired out old worn out excuses of 'this guy just isnt 'popular' enough yet' to get the fight.

A bradley/williams vs mayweather is 100x the fight that P.M vs May is, let alone the right thing to do.

Dont get me wrong, if Malignaggi was the number one, had good wins over top 140lbers and ect, ect.... i would love this fight, but hes not, your thinking its a good idea because they talk big and they will sell a fight that common sense says will be somewhat of a dud, yet it should be made because even though malignaggi isnt a big name, hes slightly more known then PW or Bradley.

The ideas you put forth is exactly whats killing boxing, and one of the many problems within the sport, IMO. Thank God MAB didnt say 'well this pac guy just isnt popular enough to get the fight'.

i agree with you completely.... but this is Floyd Mayweather were talking about.. he is never gonna fight paul willias or Bradley. It sucks but its true..

and its alot better than m hatton, cambell and some of the other names being thrown around
