I know it won't happen but I feel Floyd could benefit from hiring Mackey Shilstone to help him bulk up a little to fight Alvarez. Shilstone has a great track record of helping guys like Spinks, RJJ and Hopkins move up in weight and add lean muscle without the fighter losing speed, agility and stamina. If he could help Floyd gain maybe 5-7lbs of muscle to help his body better absorb punishment from the bigger Canelo and help him not get pushed around, I feel it could really aid Floyd in this fight....especially in the clinch and against the ropes. Thoughts?

Yes he fought at 154 twice against DLH and Cotto who both started their careers at lighter weights. Canelo is huge for 154 and most likely will be moving to 160 within the next few fights. Neither DLH or Cotto were in their primes either....this kid is 22 and experienced. It's apples and oranges IMO....although I agree that Canelo should get a nutritionist to help him make 152 without killing himself to do it.

Some fighters have a certain preference for weight.

Floyd, if anything, prefers to fight at the weight he weighs in at rather than subjecting his body to the whole drain/rehydrate cycle repeatedly. That is assuming however, that he actually does weigh in nearly the same on fight night

Naw, he's cool. He will probably be fighting at 152 come fight night, I think his main reason for catch weight is that wants to keep Canelo's weight in check. He wants to be able to move Canelo if he has too. His main focus will be on his hands and his power because I think that he fully intends to knock Canelo out.

Floyd will not be knocking Canelo out...let's get real here. He hurt his hand throwing power shots at Guerrero who was fighting at 130 not long ago and you think Floyd's going to ko Alvarez? I think not ... I think Floyd could benefit by packing on some solid muscle if he can do it without giving up his speed and quickness.

Floyds frame could hold another 10lb of muscle fairly easily with a good program.

You mean you hope Floyd will not be knocking Canelo out and that's being for real. What has Robert's head got to do with Canelo's chin. Any body can be knocked out. All it takes is the right amount of pressure applied to the proper area in the proper manner. Who knows, he might catch him tripping. Floyd is solid enough to do what he needs to with Canelo cause he won't be getting hit that much. Now that's the cold hard truth.

Canelo gonna have to drain over 22lbs now the guy might have to lose a limb.

This fight is marred with this catchweight bull****

    1) The guy signed the contract. he should know if the weight will affect him.

    2) There is a nice long history of great fighters fighting at ctachweights, both publicly announced or gentlemen agreements.

You dumb asses are always calling somebody past their prime. Cotto is better at 154 then he was when he was getting knocked down all the time at 140. Shut your mouth.

Physically most people at the age of 22 (a couple of years removed from high school) are in their physical prime.

You ever seen a 22 year old bodybuilding champ or world strongest man? No, not 23 24 25 or 26.

Name the fight where you have ever seen Floyd hurt to the body. Hell, name the fight where he even winced from a shot to the body. The dude has never gassed in a fight in his life, so I don't see what advantage Mackey could provide. Also, adding bulk for strength is not necessary. If you have seen Floyd over his career, you would be able to tell he has gotten very strong, physical wise. He often times pushes his smothering fighters, no matter how big they are. Floyd's lack of pop is likely a consequence of his historically problematic hands and natural bio-mechanics.

Besides, Canelo's style does not rely on his weight for "pushing fighters around".

That's because it takes years of serious anabolic use to get to the elite level of body building.

IMO, there are 2 primes in a fighter or athlete in general...physical and mental. A fighter can be well past his physical prime and still be in his mental prime. How effective he is in his mental prime is dependent on the ability of his physical body to perform adequately enough to allow that mental aptitude to shine through. Hopkins is a perfect example of this hypothesis.
