I remember there being a rumor about Floyd Mayweather possibly vacating his WBC welterweight title and letting Andre Berto fight for the vacant title ...

The WBC has loyalty to Floyd and will have Berto fight in more than just one eliminator and force an interim title bout for Berto ... they will not force PBF to fight a mandatory such as Berto right now. They know that they won't make much money if the fight were to take place and they can make more money in any voluntary defense that Floyd makes.

He fufilled his first defense by beating the then #1 ranked Ricky Hatton.

As long as Mayweather is the WBC champion ... the WBC stands to make more money in sanctioning fees w/ him than any other fighter that may have a chance to obtain the belt.

There better be no Mayweather-Berto after Mayweatehr-De La Hoya.

Yeah ... I'm wondering if the WBC would really do that? ... will they really mandate PBF to fight this guy? ... knowing his status and knowing Berto's status - wouldn't this be a miss match.

If Berto beats Rodriguez, then he becomes the interm champion which mean Floyd would have t fight him eventually if he wanted to keep his title.

come on now all b/s aside ... I know for one I do not want to see this fight, I don't know how he moved so high up the ranks ... fighting Estrada and Rivera

I agree with that. I wonder the same thing. He hasn't beat a legit top 10 Welterweight and is the mandatory to face the #1 fighter.

I guess I wouldn't blame Floyd for vacating the title and defending that ring magazine title ... i've seen fighters do that -- he's still the linear champion and the universally recognized champion.

I just don't want to see him having to face Cotto or Margarito as the challenger...

I think it would be best if he would vacate the title. Like you said, he's still the #1 guy in the division and as long as he faces the winner of Cotto-Margarito after De La Hoya, then he should enter the ring as the Lineal Champion.

Berto seems like a very marketable fighter with his style, this may factor into his ranking. I just don't see Berto beating any of the top welterweights, he would probably have a handful with Cintron and Judah.

Or Maybe even Sugar Shane ... given he wins the interim belt or the full championship.

why wouldn't you want floyd to face cotto or margo? If so who would you have him face?
