Floyd Mayweather has fought just twice since September 2011, but earned enough money to pass Tiger Woods as the world's highest-paid athlete, according to Forbes. Mayweather earned a combined $85 million for victories over Victor Ortiz and Miguel Cotto over the past nine months. Woods ranks third on the list this year with earnings of $59.4 million. Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather's chief rival, was second overall at $62 million. It's the first time an athlete other than Woods has been No. 1 since 2001. Forbes' earnings figures include salaries, bonuses, prize money, appearance fees, as well as licensing and endorsement income for the 12 months between June 2011 and June 2012. Mayweather received a record guaranteed purse of $32 million for his May 5 victory over Cotto, a fight that generated 1.5 million pay-per-view buys and $94 million in revenue. While Pacquiao earned a reported $6 million from endorsements, Mayweather's extra earnings come from running his own promotional company, Mayweather Promotions, which works with Golden Boy Promotions to put on his fights.
