You would have to match an old Mayweather with a very young Roy to get within 30 pounds of actual ring weight. Mayweather would get demolished at any point, what a nutty thing for this grape guy to claim.

Honestly I have a hard time swallowing the common claim that middleweights walk around at 180. When I was 180 I was much bigger than Golovkin or Hagler or Jones in the Toney fight.

Golovkin is 170 in the ring
Hagler was usually under the limit.
Jones was 180+ his whole career.

Im not sure why Jones would lie and claim he had a 15 pound advantage on Hopkins, if anything he might have been even heavier. Jones looked alot bigger than Hopkins.

I don't know, it just doesn't pass the eye test to me. I weighed 180 at one time and I know what I looked like. I was built very much like Golovkin when I was sixteen and at that time I was indeed ~160 pounds.

RJJ is better matched against Archie Moore than Floyd Mayweather.

it is sad that he thought he could construct his undefeated record to sort of use that as his claim to greatness. Saying, well other greats of his weights Duran,Leonard,Hearns,Benitez,Pryor, Whitaker all had defeats, so he is undefeated. But they fought better fighters and defeats will come if you fight the best in even fights.

Everyone carries weight differently, especially low body fat athletes. They certainly pass the eye test.

    Jones at 180+ against Hopkins

    Marciano at 187 against Charles

9:09 this something Ray doesn`t want to do, don`t clinch with Mayweather jr, he`s really strong inside and used MMA tactics to beat Conor, there`s a vid by Barry Robinson on whether Floyd is so good in the clinch that he could fight in the UFC!

Wrong Jones was at middle in this pic in 1993, those 7 pounds from a puncher like Rocky would be too much for Roy and he would be slower if he came in at 187lbs.

The only point to watching Floyd vs these two is that he wasn`t as quick against Conor as he was against Pac, could either rematch sell?

I disagree, Floyd`s great in the pocket (as was Ray vs Hearns) Sugar`s got to use that reach advantage, Hearns has said he would have just kept pumping that long jab he use against Ray because Floyd`s deadly accurate up close.

I have no idea what you are saying here.

The point was that Roy Jones looked ever bit the 180 plus pounds he was in the ring against Hopkins. There's no reason based on "eye test" to dismiss off Jones own claim about his body weight.

Floyd slowing down has nothing to do with it, imo .. The whole thing is now reality TV territory( the Connor fight). I see it as basic supply and demand.. There is still a huge demand to see Floyd fight no matter who it is. And if he comes out of retirement again ..people will pay for it ..

I think more people would pay to see Pac fight Conor in the UFC then watch Floyd fight the winner!
