Unless stated in the original post, I always assume we are talking about prime versions of the fighters at a particular weight class. At 135 Floyd Mayweather could not handle prime Robert Duran. While talented, Pretty Boy was still a bit green and had not yet developed his somewhat cautious but highly effective signature style. Duran wins by comfortable decision or late stoppage. There is a particular truth about Duran at 147 and above. After the win against Ray Leonard, Roberto never beat another all time great fighter. This is not to ignore one of the best wins and performances in boxing history. It is just to say that Duram won that fight because Sugar Ray was goaded into proving his machismo. As we all know that was a dire mistake against the very definition of boxing machismo. Roberto would not be able to do that against Floyd at 147. By the time Money fought at 147 he was older, calmer and understood what he needed to do to win a fight. This would by no means be an easy fight for Mayweather but I can see him using his six inch reach advantage to find a way to win enough rounds to decision Duran.
No. He is hugely overrated. He wasn't in his prime against Floyd. His prime was between MW-SMW. Yes, he'd had title fights. But against who?? He’d barely fought anybody. Go and see for yourself. Also, if he really was in his prime, then that just weakens your argument even further. So let's for the sake of argument, say that Canelo WAS in his prime against Floyd. That means that this supposed prime, ATG fighter, could barely beat a B level Austin Trout, as well as a B level Erislandy Lara. It means that he couldn't win a round off of Floyd, who was a 36 year old WW, whereas faded versions of Oscar and Cotto did far better, as well as Castillo and a crude, B level Maidana. And, they mostly fought against younger versions of Floyd too. It would also mean that this supposed prime ATG, couldn't beat a faded GGG the first time around. Now do you really think that those are the actions of a true ATG, on the level of a Robinson or a Leonard etc? Regarding Floyd, he never fought anybody on the level of a prime Duran or the best guys who he fought. That means that Floyd is completely unproven against that calibre of opponent. Yes, he should have fought Manny years earlier. And the fact that he delayed it for years, and that his Uncle Roger had him spooked, raises huge question marks on whether he’d have fought guys like Duran, even if he’d have had the opportunity to have done so.
Mark, one of 3 things is happening here: 1. You are trolling. 2. Someone else is posting on your behalf. 3. You have had a breakdown. I’m not sure which one it is, but it would be nice to see some normality resume.
More garbage trolling. Canelo isn't a pressure fighter. He stood off of Floyd all night. He never pressed him or pressured him on the ropes or in the corners. He just stood off of him and let him dictate the pace. Yet Maidana and Oscar both pressured Floyd far more aggressively, which is why they had far more success. This is getting very tiresome now.
There's that clip of Schwarzenegger after winning the Olympia with a plate of chicken and puffing on a joint Anyway, that's what Duran does to Floyd, lights him up and smokes him Floyd would come apart because he never would have been in that position before where he's getting whooped six ways to Sunday, exposed would be an understatement
If someone disagrees with you, it doesn't make them an idiot, it just means they have a different opinion. And I'm all for that. I don't think Floyd gets chinned by Duran. Sure its easy to point at Maidana, and its easy to point at Laing, Hearns etc also, but those losses mean nothing. We are having a gentleman's discussion about two of the finest to have ever laced them up. I think Duran ranks more highly than Floyd. But I think Floyd beats him, best version v best version. Take care guys, peace and love always, Px
Yes, of course someone disagreeing with an opinion doesn’t make them an idiot. However, Mark has been completely disrespectful all throughout the thread, where he clearly has no intention of having an objective debate. So under normal circumstances, I’d agree with you. But not here. Mark has absolutely acted like an idiot. Look at some of the ridiculous comments that he’s made: “Duran was just a brawler with a bit of skill” “Duran couldn’t have landed a glove on Floyd” “Canelo was a pressure fighter” Just nonsense. Now if he wishes to have a gentlemanly debate, then he can do so. And if he does, he’ll get much nicer responses to his posts.
Many things I just flat out disagree with. Will have to agree to disagree. Even if you think some of those fighters aren’t great or ATG you should be able to say they were very good fighters. That got completely outclassed. Give the man his flowers at least.
