Do you guys think that there is a significant advantage for Hatton regarding overall strength, as opposed to punching power? Hatton commits to his shots more, and works towards breaking opponents down and ultimately knocking them out. Obviously, Mayweather is defensive minded and gets hit far less, but he doesn't try to land with authority as much as Hatton does and is content to outbox people and win a decision. But what I would suggest is that Floyd is at least as strong, if not stronger than Hatton. He has had more time to acclimate himself to the higher weight class, and is coming down from 154. I think his strength and conditioning will be awesome for this fight, and he won't be weight drained either. Hatton's ideal weight class is at 140, and the extra seven pounds won't make him significantly stronger or more well conditioned than he already is. I think this will play a factor, because Hatton won't be able to bully Floyd as much as he would normally in the clinch and fighting inside. It might have been an ego thing, but Collazo said that Hatton's punches didn't bother him because he was the smaller man. I think the extra seven pounds does make a difference. I would expect the same thing if, for example, Juan Diaz moved up to 140. He would not be as effective there as he is at 135, nor would other fighters who rely on a steady accumulation of punishment to take it's toll as the fight progresses.
I believe Hatton is physically stronger and fights stronger because he comes forward and sits down on his punches.
The strenght factor will only be evident if Joe Cortez allowes Hatton to rough house PBF...then and only then you will clearly see that Hatton is the stronger fighter...PBF will pitty pat the entire night
Mayweather is very strong in the clinch. ODLH, Baldomir, Judah...these guys tried to boss him around in the clinch and Mayweather pushed them back. I think Ricky could win, but i think he's not taking into consider Mayweather's leg strength. His balance is outstanding.
great post...i dont think Hatton really understands that while Floyd doesn't fight like he does he still is strong in his on way....he shouldnt underestimate Floyd's strength like he does.
I don't think Collazo is stronger than Mayweather either, although I'm not one to completelly discard Ricky's excuse that he didn't have an optimal amount of time to train for that fight. Everyone is entitled to an off night, for whatever reason.
Mayweather never made it to the 154 limit, and if Hatton walks around at 175 , you would think he should be the stronger one.
weight isn't strength. you can weigh more and be weaker. It usually happens when you're not a year-round athlete maintaining your weight with daily cardio...coincidentally.
Do you really believe he thinks FMJ is weak? I really don't think so. All that is said in the build-up is just that....talk.
True, but what else do we have to go on...........i was more impressed with PBF chins than Hattons leg press. Against each other in the clinch, its too hard to guess.
The fact that Mayweather started his career at less weight suggests Hatton is naturally stronger, however Mayweather has been fighting at 140+ for quite some time and could very well have matured to a stronger man. If I had to pick I would say Hatton is stronger but I dont think there will be much in it.
Even if hatton doesn't prove to have the physical strength to push Mayweather, he certainly has the dynamo, petrol motion to step up the pace to a frenzy and assault Mayweather from varied angles. But I believe he will prove stronger cause he's already naturally bulky, he's aggressive and he has incredible will power... Man, I wouldn't like to have Hatton comin and comin at me.
Depends how you measure strength. With his short limbs and stocky build I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hatton could lift more in a weight lifting contest. This might give him some edge in the wrestling department. However having longer levers and good leverage and speed might give Floyd more power. If he sits down on his punches Floyd could surprise every-one in this one.
