umm, what previous 43 opponents exposed Hatton's "weak" chin and tendency to get "frustrated/tired" in the process of knocking him out toward the end?:nut

There is no way he could possibly not be frustrated and tired near the end. He is bound to get hit a lot and miss most of his punches. Debating that is pointless.

Chavez wouldn't be hurt by Collazo, that's for sure. And he certainly wouldn't have a close, controversial match with B-levels like him, so please don't compare Hatton to the great JCC. :D

I like the Ruiz-Jones comparison better, talent and matchup wise.

Maybe Taylor vs. Chavez is a better example Than Pea.
(Although Meldrick had too much Heart for his own good, PBF would never stand in front of hatton and Trade like Talor did with Chavez)

If Meldrick stays on his Bike & Box, **** History would have changed.

Hatton does not have anywhere near the defensive abilities of Chavez. Nor does he have the precision punching of Chavez. His chin may be a tad below Chavez's as well, though not to a great extent.

He probably will have a tad more energy than Chavez had against Pernell and he may have quicker footwork, though I tend to think Hatton's footwork is overrated.

On the flip side, Floyd Mayweather does not have the creative flair of Whitaker, nor his in fighting nous, nor his activity level and his willingness to stand within striking distance for large portions of the fight.

He is quicker than Pernell though, by hand and by foot, and maybe a tad harder puncher.

I agree with huki, who says Jones-Ruiz is a much better analogy for how this fight will go. It might be closer though, than that affair.

Considering that Hatton has the skills of Ruiz and the size of Jones, while Mayweather has the skills of Jones and the size of Ruiz, this shouldn't be anything but a one-sided affair.

Considering that Hatton has sligtly better skills and better speed than Ruiz and that Mayweather isn't quite as quick as Jones, I think it will be somewhat closer.

Considering Jay Nady won't be there, that might make a difference too.

i think it would be better to compare this matchup to the Toney/Jirov fight.

Jirovs pressure kept Toney on his toes the whole fight and it was a hell of a show with Toney knocking out Jirov in one of the last rounds.

i see Mayweather/Hatton ending up the same way.

There are some similarities in the fighting styles of Hatton and Chavez, but there are also differences, some have been mentioned.

Definitely Chavez was a better boxer and had better defense.....
I also believe Chavez provided consistently better pressure and varied his attack a bit better than Hatton.

......neither are big punchers but Hatton's one shot power may be a little better than Chavez'.

There is one thing in Hatton's arsenal that Chavez never had to employ that has me thinking that Mayweather is going to have a difficult time with.
Hatton's ability to disrupt an offense by getting down and dirty.
Holding, clinching, elbowing, ramming his shoulder onto any part of his opponents body.....all these things disrupts a good offense and even injures and hurts an opponent.

So while there are some things that Hatton and Chavez have in common....good pressure and a top notch body attack.
The one big difference that Hatton does better, imo will most likely work in his favor.

Most fighters would have more difficulty dealing with Chavez, but the pesky types like Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather may have more difficulty with dealing with the roughouse tactics employed by Ricky Hatton.

Floyd Mayweather in particular imo will have problems with Hatton because Mayweather likes to go to the ropes and shoulder rolll when he needs a rest......that just does'nt bold well against a fighter that loves to dig to the body, in particular one that will also elbow and ram his shoulder and body at him!
