Floyd weighed in at 150 for his fight with Oscar. Floyd is what? 5'8"? Kelly Pavlik is 6 foot 2 and a half inches. Against Miranda Pavlik entered the ring at 171 pounds, and looked like he could easily carry another 10 pounds. He has competed as high as 175, and has fought above 160 a total of 12 times. All of those fights ended in brutal knock outs. Most in under 3 rounds. Of his last 6 opponents 5 had never been knocked out before meeting Pavlik. 3 of Kelly's victims moved out of the middleweight division immediately after they fought him. The last guy who went the distance against "The Ghost" never fought again. Floyd goes into this fight a 25 to 1 underdog. An underdog who would be damn lucky to survive the first round. Watch these 2 clips, and then try to convince me I'm wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQu0sr0oNLg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QJwtmv86x8
Actually I hate to even speculate on that for a couple reasons. Pavlik is only 25 years old. He is most likely 2 years away from even entering his prime. In addition BHops resume is such that it is hard to compare the two without extreme prejudice. Boo
To me it is all about attitude. Hurricane Carter said after destroying Emile Griffith in one round, "No welterweight belongs in the ring with me". If Pavlik had Bob Foster's, Hagler's, or Carter's viscious pre-fight attitude, then he would use his 6' 1" height, 170 lb fight-time weight, and superior reach and come out throwing and blast PBF into a 4 round TKO. But if he doesn't take PBF seriously, then he might get outpointed in a 12 round fight by starting too late like Hagler did against SRL.
All of these PBF versus Pavlik threads will be null and void when Taylor pulls off the upset over Pavlik and sets up the middleweight Thrillogy!
Well if I must speculate, Either Kelly takes it by late tko; 11th or 12th round because BHop breaks down from stiff jabs and rights to the head and body, or else BHop wins a narrow ud by being a smart veteran who nearly always finds a way to spoil the other guys game plan. I don't think Hopkins would stand and trade with Kelly. In addition Kelly has yet to face a really smart and slick boxer who is an elte level fighter. Boo
I'd think it'd be interesting to see PBF face someone who has a reach advantage over him. 85-15 favorite for me for pavlik.
No. Mine won't. Mine's about Floyd, not Pavlik. (I picked Taylor last time and, foolish or not, I'm picking him to get revenge in the rematch). If Taylor wins, my call would be for Floyd to step up and face him. If Oscar (who started down around 130) was brave enough to take a crack at BHop, Floyd shoud at least consider facing a middle weight champ.
It's pretty obvious to me that Pavlik as an absolute killer mentality. He would never start out too slow like Hagler against SRL, he fights hard for every minute of every round. He is humble enough to not let a false kind of entitlement/confidence get in the way. I believe this was Halger's problem with SRL, he was taking winning for granted an I don't see that happening to Pavlik.
Yeah, & look what happened to him. This match up is utter fantasy. A complete mismatch. Kelly would corner him & that would be the end of it. Believe it.
