they were both evil little men, they confirmed that much on the night. Sucker punches are evil, as is biting.
oh it was headbutting, well thats nasty too, but not the same level Money just proved he was a t.i.t again.

You can’t use your head like that out of frustration.

A lot of talk about headbutts, but nothing about Ortiz's claim he was fouled/elbowed which led to the retaliation. People like to pick and choose. In the Fury/Abel fight, for instance, you can show Fury hitting Abel in the balls and saying how bad it was, or you can realise he specifically did that because he was headbutted by Abel, and mentioned it afterwards.

The key point in the Ortiz fight is that regardless of the ref or 'protect yourself at all times' bull****, it was clearly a cheap shot because Ortiz was not 'on guard' and both knew it. There are plenty of times fighters are not protecting themselves in the ring precisely, touching gloves after an accidental foul etc., and it's expected nobody is going to nail them at that moment, but wait until they are back in a proper fighting posture. Yes they 'can' legally counter an extended glove with a hayemaker, but it's dishonourable.

All you have to do here is imagine Kovalev versus Ward and after Ward has headbutted Kovalev, they are out of fighting stances, exchanging words and Ward is apologising to Kovalev trying to give him a cuddle .... when BANG, Kovalev ices Ward. He would be branded the most disgraceful fighter of all time.

No a DQ, but a very classless suckerpunch (2 actually) on a fighter that was just as classless with the blatant headbutt.
Maybe this should have been a NC afterwards. It was a ridiculous display of unsportsmanlike behavior from both boxers and incompetence of the referee.

Ortiz always uses his head on the inside. It's a common tactic albeit on the grey line of things. But in the second round Ortiz was already rubbing his head against Mayweather's on the ropes.
Mayweather is dirty with that sneaky elbow. He landed it soon after Ortiz's first use of the head.
If you are gonna play dirty, then at least be subtle. Protect yourself from the opponent by fouling back, but also protect yourself from the referee. Don't give Cortez a reason to punish you.
Cortez ****ed up by waving them on and saying "let's go".

And don't act like Floyd didn't get **** for that KO. He got shredded for it. Just like Ward got a mountain of **** for his low blows.

The ref did say box but Ortiz was an idiot he hugged Floyd with his hands completely down with no defence whatsoever. Usually fighters when touching gloves or anything are atleast in a semi stance position.

My question is, who the hell hugs their opponent in the middle of a fight??

Protect yourself at all times, especially after a ref says to continue.

I’d have to rewatch but I believe I remember 7 headbutts is why he hugged him repeatedly. Whatever, if ortiz wanted a gay buddy he shoulda went after Oscar or canelo.

    i disagree
The fight should be stopped if you become so frustrated all you can do is headbutt.
If you attempt to butt me I throw elbows and go low immediately, pull down your head every chance I get, bite you. F that.

    Mental midgets like Victor Ortiz.
When people hit that breaking point, they behave rather odd.

Maybe a question for Classic but has this ever happened before in a fight? Very odd.

    No.
**** all this touch gloves stuff.
If fighters want to touch gloves , fine, but do it while being aware that an opponent might try to take advantage.
Likewise a fighter might seem to initiate the touching of gloves but could be doing so as a trick.
The only time they are compelled to touch gloves and not expect any funny business is at the beginning of the final round under the referee's supervision.

Of course, throwing those sucker punches off an apparent attempt at a gesture of sportmanship, is NOT going to endear a fighter to the general public.
