Often when people discuss Mayweather's victory over Alvarez, a common point that people bring up is that Canelo was green or not yet in his prime. Canelo was 23 for that fight, and Mayweather was 36. Shouldn't the age factor work far more towards Floyd's favor? 36 is old for boxing. Additionally, shouldn't Alvarez's record since the Mayweather fight also enhance the feat?

Mayweather gets flak for hand picking opponents, but I find it increasingly difficult to not count that fight as a major win over a prime elite opponent. He beat, rather outclassed, a legendary future HoF fighter in his prime as a 36 year old.

The Ginger had plenty of experience, a massive weight advantage PED’s not to say Mayweather didn’t have PED’s but the point still stands Floyd was way out of his league and they knew it and planned on robbing Floyd if the card was remotely close La GGG style look at one of the very curios score cards.

Floyed showed that canelo is a paper and how far out of his league he was. Wouldn't say its under rated but its still a good win

It was a good win but its overshadowed by the catchweight. Floyd could have beat him without one, but, as always he gives us all a reason to hate on him. Pacquiao against cotto, too - it devalues the win for me.

I think it's one of his better wins, given the career Alvarez has gone on to have

    I agree.

Im not a fan of Floyd's vulgarities and boasting but he beat a coming up to close to his prime canelo.

Equally i felt canelo lost narrowly to GGG the first time..and the 2nd was a draw

    Floyds win is mammoth.

Its his greatest win and cements him as this centurys best.

My only issue is the catchweight. And it is an issue. Not sure it’s enough to prevent it from being his best win, though.

Future no.1 star and P4P losing to a blown-up Lightweight, superb win for Mayweather.

You could argue that but, there's arguments for the following:

    A) Castillo put a far better gameplan and ring smarts and FMJ provailed
    B) DLH was also 154lb ATG champ at the time on a good run at the time with massive size advantages. This DLH at 154 arguably beats Alvarez.
    C) Corrales was the prime killer in his prime division and that's arguably his best performance
    D) Pacquaio is his fellow best of the era
    E) Marquez is also top P4P of the era, but FMJ had both stylistic and size advanages.

It's underrated because people hate Floyd. They make all kinds of excuses and goal post shifting to undermine the win, like bringing up the 2 lbs when it was Canelo's idea and he had came within that weight in multiple fights (and even lower). On top of all that, Canelo is much bigger and stronger than Floyd and likely rehydrated to at keast 160 if not higher. The age thing is BS since he had 40 fights and Mayweather was Old by boxing standards at 36. Mayweather had been training since he was a child with a long amateur career and plenty of wars.

It's kind of overrated because Canelo is an excellent p4p boxer and has many solid wins. However, he is quite the diva and has benefited from favoritism and close score cards. We really don't know just how good Canelo is and that's part of the problem in evaluating how well this win has aged for Floyd. Canelo needs to put his big boy pants on and actually unify or beat some of the boogeyman like Andrade or Benavidez. The governing bodies need to stop spoiling him too.

Had it about 9-3, Mayweather, maybe 8-4. DLH wasn't landing much clean. I didn't like Mayweather's conservative performance. I think he could of opened up more.

The issue with Mayweather I think is he purposely boxed to not lose, when he really could of looked special if he opened up more.

Not my real name BTW. Charley Burley is a great boxer from the 30s and 40s, not far off the level of Sugar Ray, who didn't get his fair chance to fight for titles.
