Watch the mad rush for the door right now, everybody nervously logging off. "Jeez I don't want him to see my name in the list of online users browsing this sub-forum and call me out. I remember on at least a few instances telling IB he was an idiot for having Mayweather-Canelo a shutout. I sure as **** don't want to be called to task for it and have to put my money where my mouth is in a h2h analytical debate!)

See, these MF'ers actually might annoy me the most of all, just because of how nefarious their truth twisting is. And they think they're clever enough that nobody can see through it, but I can.

See, from known Pacquiao fans or Mayweather haters or Mexicans - of course you'd expect resistance to the idea that Mayweather shut Canelo out. Of course they don't want to acknowledge that it was a clean sweep (even though deep down everybody knows I'm right, if you dig past the emotion of wanting to see more than there was to Canelo's performance, and tune out the similarly hopeful crowd cheering every time he whiffed a punch). That's keeping in character for them.

From these Mayweather nut huggers though, there are labyrinthine layers of roundabout agenda-serving psychosis caked on here. They would rather throw their own guy under the bus, in a small way, by slightly (disingenuously) downplaying the mastery of his shutout of Canelo, just to enhance his overall perceived legacy. You see, they want Canelo to seem like a really good opponent. They want Canelo to be perceived as this prime hungry lion that everybody was avoiding and Mayweather bravely took on and survived some adversity to cling to a victory over while well past his own best and with one foot out the door. That has a nice glamorous, poetic ring to it. Of course they want Canelo to be perceived as having done as good or better versus a latter-days Money May than, say, Cotto. OF COURSE. You know why? Because Cotto is a common opponent for Mayweather and Pacquiao, and public perception is that Pacquiao has the more impressive win/struggled less. So that is a "solid" win for the aging semi-active version of Mayweather that is canceled out or worse by his archrival one-upping him. SO OF COURSE the Mayweather nut-huggers want to prop up Canelo (who also happens to conveniently have a h2h win over an old Cotto) as the much more dangerous opponent from Floyd's POV. Of course they want Floyd to have a win that is unsullied by Pacquiao matching or exceeding. Pacquiao has never fought Canelo and likely never will, so that's a 'safe one' the Mayweather nut huggers have in the bag to be like "Yeah, well, Pac may have outdone him versus Cotto but styles make fights, and Mayweather beat that ginger haired BEAST in his prime and Pacquiao would have never been able to do that" and leave it at that. Cotto's chapter in boxing history is over and done with, as is Pacquiao's, as is Mayweather's. All the Mayweather nuthuggers know that Canelo has several more years in big fights and you BETTER BELIEVE they are rooting hard for him to build up his legacy as much as possible, to vicariously in hindsight big-up Mayweather's for schooling him "10-2" or "9-3" in his prime. (when all these MF'ers know damn well it was twelve zip, and that Canelo was made to look amateurish). Just look at how this same contingent - THAT USED TO RAG ON CANELO IN THE BUILD UP TO HIS FIGHT WITH MAYWEATHER FOR BEING A POOR MAN'S FLOYD IMITATOR WITH NO HAND SPEED, NO POWER, NO CHIN ETC. - suddenly and mysteriously became massive fans of the "slick and talented" Canelo shortly before and since he fought Golovkin - a coup that would launch Canelo into the big-time in terms of credibility (and in retrospect push Mayweather's stock up, even as he sits fat and happy in retirement, without him needing to lift a finger)

This is the kind of logic-warping these agenda jockeys resort to. They'll literally deprive their own hero of credit in a misguided attempt to give him credit in a different (less honest) way. It's sickening.

Apparently you missed my breakdown of Canelo Mayweather earlier this year. And apparently I missed your thread on the subject last year? Can you point me to your thread from last year that you're referring to?

If you're looking for "Ironclad" Canelo rounds vs Mayweather, you're not gonna find many. Floyd doesn't lose many rounds, and of the rounds he lost in his career, surely most of them aren't ironclad. So I think having that premise (needing there to be Canelo Ironclad rounds or else it's a Floyd shutout) is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy in your argument that it was a shutout. You don't need to have a so-called Ironclad round to win rounds. You just need to do better than your opponent in the round.

That said, if you're asking for an Ironclad Canelo round vs Floyd, I'd refer you to the 10th round. I don't see how you can give that Round to Floyd, and I'd be happy to discuss that round in detail.

Most of the rounds Canelo won vs Floyd were rounds that were fairly even. There wasn't a round that Canelo just completely dominated Floyd from start to finish or anything. But when you have so many closely contested rounds, to just give all the close rounds to one fighter is unusual.

After watching the fight several times, what stands out to me is how uncomfortable Floyd was from the opening bell. He was reacting repeatedly to Canelo feints which was very uncharacteristic of Floyd. Floyd was still putting in work, and landing punches, but he was not doing so fluidly or in any kind of rhythm. Canelo wasn't taking full advantage of the opportunities created by his feints as he was being very cautious himself, and it became a real counter punching duel early. I thought Canelo did well enough to win Rounds 2 3 and 4, but there was nothing Ironclad about those rounds. Those are rounds that were closely contested and can be debated like most of the rounds in the fight. Other rounds like 5 6 9 and 12 were relatively close but aside from 12 which Floyd did next to nothing in, it's hard to give those rounds (5 6 & 9) to Canelo. I'd say round 10 was pretty much an Ironclad round for Canelo. Canelo not only fought off the ropes effectively in the round, but he managed to pin Floyd on the ropes that round and landed a barrage of punches on Floyd which caused the crowd to erupt.

That was really the only time that Canelo was able to mount a sustained attack on Floyd. The other rounds, it was mostly punch at a time.

I look forward to tearing your arguments asunder (or - astonishingly - changing my mind, if you have pulled off a miracle of persuasive reasoning here) at a later date when I'm not @ work and have time to sit down and read & dissect them. In the meantime I applaud your courage stepping up to bat.

I'll leave here my RBR description for the tenth round from both my original RBR thread and the rewatch thread. Spectators of this debate are welcome to pull up video of the round and compare my description(s) with shadow111's to determine whose, in their opinion, more closely mirrors the reality of what unfolded.

Come on, one of you tough talking pansies PROVE to me that Canelo deserved a round. Any round. Come at me.

I'm all alone in the world on this, I know (because Mayweather is such a polarizing figure; everyone has some kind of bias to make them irrationally emotional where he's concerned - and both the haters and huggers have agenda-driven reasons, albeit different reasons, to not want to admit the INCONVENIENT TRUTH of the shutout) but that doesn't make me any less right.

Hang tight IB. Earlier this year I typed out full punch summaries of each round. I'm just going back over Round 10 to make sure I have it accurate. It was one of Canelo's better rounds, but even then it's a relatively close round when you consider how Floyd finished the round throwing several jabs some of which landed. Like I said, there's not one round that Canelo dominated from start to finish, obviously these are hard rounds to score, and in many of these rounds you are really splitting hairs as to who you think won it.

I'm up for a good debate about this fight and how many rounds Canelo won. I'll post my full punch summary of Round 10 and I'll pinpoint why he deserved to win this round. Then if you're up for it, we can get into other rounds like 2, 3 and 4. FYI Round 2 was hotly debated a few months back.

    Here's my Round 10 Punch Summary :

Canelo lands the first punch of the round which is a jab to the body near the belt-line with 2:49 on the clock as Floyd was moving away. With 2:42 on the clock, Canelo gets in a left hook to the neck that may have been partly blocked by the wrist part of Floyd’s glove (hard to see from the angle) then Canelo throws a hard right hand that may have landed on Floyd’s chin (Floyd pulled back hard trying to avoid it, it’s hard to see from the camera angle how well it landed). It resulted in Floyd leaning back hard crashing into the ropes. Floyd then moves to his left and throws a jab, it mostly missed, it may have grazed the left side of Canelo’s face. Canelo counters by landing a solid jab to Mayweather’s chin. Alvarez throws a jab to the body blocked by Floyd’s cross-armed block. Canelo then gets in a glancing left hook that hits Floyd in the neck/chin area also partly blocked by Floyd’s arm, followed by a hard right to the body that gets in from Canelo below Floyd’s left elbow. This is a good start here from Canelo. With 2:32 on the clock Canelo lands a right hand that hits Floyd on the top of Floyd’s head as he tried to duck it but couldn’t. Floyd counters with a short right hook to Canelo’s face pushing him away. (partly blocked) Floyd then throws a light jab with nothing on it, then Floyd lands a harder jab through Canelo’s guard. Canelo then responds with a jab to the chin, followed by a right hand to Floyd’s left ribs. Canelo then blocks a counter right hand from Floyd with his gloves.

With 2:25 on the clock, Floyd hits Canelo with a jab through the guard, then with 2:19 left in the round Canelo surprises Floyd with a hard jab through Floyd’s guard. Then Canelo follows that up with a nice quick left hook that lands as well. Alvarez jabs to the body, it hits Floyd’s left arm and Canelo clinches. They break and Canelo lands a jab as Floyd ducks down, Floyd then lands a right hand body shot to Canelo’s kidney area. Floyd appears to hit Canelo’s belt line with an inside left hook, then Floyd throws a jab upstairs that misses short. (Canelo pulls back to avoid it with 2:04 on the clock) Canelo lands a nice 3 punch combo : jab, jab, right hand to the body, all of them land, Floyd ducks real low and Canelo misses with a left hook. But then Floyd is starting to dip back up and Canelo times him with a hard right hand to the top of head. (this was a quality punch from Alvarez with 2:00 on the clock) Floyd then pushes Canelo away and moments later Floyd throws a jab, Canelo appears to narrowly avoid it. (it may have grazed Canelo’s face as he was pulling away, but it didn’t land flush or with any impact) Floyd fakes another jab upstairs, then gets in a jab to Canelo’s stomach. (1:56)

With Canelo now on the ropes, Floyd throws a right hand that’s blocked / parried nicely by Alvarez. Canelo counters with a right upper cut that appears to land on the inside. Floyd tries a left hook with 1:52 on the clock that’s blocked well by Canelo. Floyd lands a very light left hook that goes around the back of Canelo’s head with Canelo ducking away from it. With 1:49 left, Floyd lands a solid jab on Canelo, then moments later Floyd jabs twice, the first time blocked then the second one lands, but not with much force. Canelo responds with a jab of his own. (hard to tell how well it landed from the angle with Floyd’s back to the camera, but Floyd pulled back hard as it appears to connect) Canelo blocks 3 Floyd jabs, then Floyd misses with an overhand right. (partially blocked and avoided by Canelo) Canelo counters with a short right hand to the body. (it’s hard to see from the camera angle) Then Canelo throws a hard left uppercut that may have landed but we can’t see if it did because Floyd’s back is to the camera. Then Canelo throws a right hook that appears to just miss. (with 1:39 on the clock, hard to tell from the angle, it may have actually landed)

Canelo then fighting off the ropes lands a hard jab. Canelo then blocks a Floyd jab to the body. Floyd then gets in a jab to the body. Then Floyd throws another jab to the body, it hits softly on Canelo’s arm. Floyd gets in yet another jab to the body with 1:31 left in the round with Canelo still on the ropes. Floyd lands a soft jab to the chin / neck area then Canelo ducks. Canelo then blocks a left hook by Floyd. Floyd tries another left hook, this one with more force, it’s hard to tell from the angle if it landed cleanly, I think it was partly blocked but it may have ricocheted off the glove and had enough force to cause some impact with the face. Canelo blocks a light left hook, then Floyd winds up and tries to land a harder left hook, this one was mostly blocked, but it also connected in the ear area. Then Floyd throws a two punch combination, a jab, followed by a hard right hand, both were well blocked by Canelo. With 1:21 left in the round, Canelo blocks a left hand, then avoids and mostly blocks a right hand by Floyd. Canelo then slips a right hand by Floyd. Then Mayweather getting frustrated at his inability to land clean punches with Canelo on the ropes backs up to center ring.

This to me is one of the more impressive moments that Canelo had in this fight. Floyd threw a lot of punches in that exchange with Canelo on the ropes, but most were blocked, slipped or didn’t land cleanly. Just look at how suburb Canelo’s defense was while on the ropes all that time. He blocked nearly all of Floyd’s punches while on the ropes. And these were well placed shots from Floyd.

Canelo now comes off the ropes and throws a 3 punch combo : a jab, jab, right-hand-to-the-body combo on Floyd. All 3 of these punches appear to land clean, though it’s hard to be sure with Floyd’s back facing the camera. This causes Floyd to back away and move back towards the ropes. With 1:01 left, Canelo throws a jab that Floyd ducks down real low to slip. (it hits Floyd in his back as he’s ducking) Canelo follows up with a straight right hand that hits Floyd on the top of the head as he tries to duck the punch. (the punch actually hits the rope) They clinch momentarily, but the ref says work out, so Floyd throws a light right uppercut that looked low or near the belt-line. Canelo then lands a short left hook to the body to get Floyd to drop his guard, then follows that up what may have been Canelo’s best punch of the fight which was a hard right hand that rocked Floyd and got some “oohs” from the crowd. Then with Floyd covering up on the ropes, Alvarez lands a Sugar Ray Leonard style 7 punch combination with Floyd on the ropes : two jabs to the body, a right hand to the body, left hand to the chest, a right hand to the body, left hand to the arm, then another big right hand, this one ricocheting off Floyd’s left shoulder but still lands on the head, followed by another left to the body. Unbelievable work here from Alvarez!! The crowd is gasping in disbelief!!

Floyd finally is forced to get off the ropes, so he moves to his left and Canelo starts walking him down. With 0:51 on the clock, Floyd lands a solid jab with Canelo walking him down. Canelo responds with a jab that misses short, then Canelo gets in a jab to the body between Floyd’s gloves. Floyd is moving away. With 0:45 on the clock, Canelo gets in a decent jab that hits Floyd on the chin / neck / right collarbone area. With Floyd still moving away, Alvarez lands a big right hand to the side of Floyd’s head. With 38 seconds left in the round, Floyd gets in a jab that was partly blocked and partly slipped, Alvarez counters with a jab that gets through to Floyd’s stomach, followed by another Canelo jab that hits arm. Canelo then throws a left hook that’s partially blocked but hits Floyd on the chin, followed by a right hand to the body appears to connect with Floyd’s arm / left elbow. (can’t see due to the angle)

Floyd throws a jab, partly blocked, appears to land. (hard to see) Canelo responds by doubling a jab to the body. First one hits arm, the 2nd appears to hit body. Then with 0:32 on the clock, Canelo throws a big right hand to the head as Floyd is backing away. (Floyd may have narrowly avoided it, it’s hard to see from the angle) Canelo lands a soft right hook that lands near Floyd’s back / kidney area as Floyd retreats. Floyd manages to get a jab in with 20 seconds left in the round that hits Canelo on the cheek. Then with 16 seconds left, Floyd throws another jab, Canelo intelligently parries the punch with his right glove, pushing it away, but the punch landed on his forehead as he was brushing it away. Canelo throws a quick left hook that forces a hard reaction from Floyd. Floyd manages to block the punch but is put off balance falling away from Canelo’s follow-up right hand that just misses. Floyd resets himself and lands a light jab on Canelo with 11 seconds left, then Floyd lands a harder jab on Canelo. (both unblocked) Floyd then throws another jab with 8 seconds left, Canelo parries it, but it appears to land right as he’s parrying it away similar to the one with 16 seconds left. Floyd throws another jab that misses short, and the round ends.

As the bell rings, Floyd stares long and hard at Canelo, and the two fighters stand there giving each other a long hard stare down! What stands out to me is the sequence with 1 minute left in the round with Canelo landing that 7-8 punch combination with Floyd on the ropes. That's why Canelo deserved to win that round. You also need to consider that Floyd was not able to land those kind of major punches earlier in the round when Canelo was on the ropes. Canelo blocked most of them. Floyd wasn't able to put punches together when Canelo was on the ropes like Canelo did when he had Floyd on the ropes.

Floyd actually got frustrated with how good Canelo's defense was when he had Canelo on the ropes, so much so that after a while of trying to land but not being able to, Floyd backed away and waited for Canelo to come off the ropes. You can't ignore those two sequence, first when Canelo was on the ropes, and how well he was blocking Floyd's punches, then when Canelo pinned Floyd on the ropes, Canelo was more effective at landing big punches with Floyd on the ropes. Nothing Floyd did in this round can compare to that 7-8 punch Sugar Ray Leonard style combination Canelo landed with a minute left in the round. Floyd did land some jabs down the stretch, but most of them were blocked or partly parried by Canelo.

IB, you're looking for reasons as to why Canelo deserved to win the 10th round, look no further than Canelo's 7/8 punch combination on Floyd with most of them landing clean, including two hard right hands to the head. Nothing Floyd did that round can compare to that combination.

This should be interesting to see IB's response. I mean, how can you ignore that 7/8 punch combination by Canelo lol. And how you can you ignore the TWO big right hands by Canelo BEFORE the 7/8 combination. (first one with 1:01 on the clock hitting the top of Floyd's head as he ducked, and the 2nd with 0:58 on the clock that was just huge) Look at how Canelo set up that right hand with 0:58 on the clock by getting Floyd to drop his guard with the hard left to the body right before it.

Just that whole sequence : you had a total of 12 unanswered punches by Canelo with Floyd on the ropes : first a left right combo, hitting back and top of head, then a hard left right, the left getting Floyd to drop his guard and the right being probably the best punch of the entire fight, followed by a 7 punch combination (with two hard rights to the head in the combination) then a left hand body shot to punctuate the exchange. After all that Floyd is quick to get off the ropes.

This is important to all the boxing fans out there. Canelo proved this round that he's very comfortable fighting off the ropes, and Floyd proved that he's not comfortable fighting off the ropes against Canelo. Canelo proved that he's very effective at picking off Floyd's punches when he's on the ropes. Floyd proved that he couldn't pick off Canelo's punches when he was on the ropes as he was getting tagged repeatedly. That's why Canelo deserved to win the round. Aside from all the ropes stuff, Canelo started the round strong and landed several good punches throughout the round. Floyd landed some good punches as well, possibly slightly better outside the ropes stuff with landing more jabs, but not better enough to offset the 12 unanswered punches landed by Canelo and how well Canelo picked off Floyd's punches when he was on the ropes. For you to give Floyd this round, you have to pretty much ignore those 12 unanswered punches by Canelo. I look forward to seeing your response IB and debating this with you.
