Mayweather can adapt to the styles he's been presented with, none of which have been ATG opposition, aside from De La Hoya who was past his prime and winning the fight over 7 rounds prior to gassing as he always does nowadays. I'd take a prime Oscar to beat Floyd.

I'd take a prime Oscar to have a better chance, but still think PBF would squeeze out the SD.

Mayweather can adapt well to styles, but that's the problem here. He wouldn't have time to adapt. PBF isn't going to time Pryor coming in, and he sure as hell isn't going to get away from Pryor (he gets backed into the ropes to much by lesser fighters) He would be too focused with not being hit to actually create his own offense. Pryor's speed, accuracy, lateral movement (which is far superior to anything Floyd has faced), workrate, and power would be there all night, every second of every round for 15 rounds. And Pryor would be able to hit Floyd much easier than anyone PBF has ever fought, his speed, accuracy, and the angles at which he attacks would find the few holes in Floyd's defense. All-time, yes Floyd probably should rank higher, but he loses H2H.

The non-stop pressure would put Floyd off his game and send him into a defensive shell (something he is guilty of doing at times). He would be too busy trying to minimize he damage he sustains instead of creating his own offense. Mayweather's low punch out-put would get him badly out worked by Pryor, who threw twice as many punches as him. I suspect Pryor would use his jab to upset Floyd's rythm and get him to back into the ropes, where he would be able to work the body/head.

Pryor was a far superior fighter up close, but could also give Floyd hell from mid-range with his swarming, awkward punches. I doubt Mayweather has the power and offense to keep Pryor away from him for 12 rounds, who himself had an iron chin. At long range Pryor is also capable of competing with Floyd, as he proved that he could adapt to boxing at times during his career. Another thing is that Pryor was alot better defensively than people give him credit for, he used alot of headmovement and came at wierd angles (he had quick feet aswell). It would be no easy task trying to counter him enough to win a decision.

    Clear UD for Pryor.

Head-to-head, I make Pryor the favorite.

Historically, Mayweather is the greater fighter.

    Pryor is historically overrated.

Another situation where a fighter from the past is deemed too good for a current fighter.

Mayweather would win a UD by simply outboxing Pryor and countering him to death.

Im not sure how the fight would play out. I think Mayweather has matured (at least as a fighter) and is a better fighter than the version who fought Castillo. So i think he would better adapt to certain styles these days than 4,5 years ago. I would favour Mayweathers discipline a little bit over the wild swinging unorthodox Pryor. Not saying he is another Mayorga, but he wasnt Roy Jones either.

Much of this thread reflects the ridiculous and universally held assumption that fighters of a bygone era are always superior to today's fighters, which is total crap.

I agree with you in principle, current fighters are always overlooked for the old guys and it really irritates me, but this is one occasion where that irritation does not surface. Anyone who has seen a lot of Pryor fighting at light-welterweight and Floyd Mayweather Jr fighting at light-welterweight must accept Pryor would win convincingly. I'm not saying he should necessarily be rated higher in all-time p4p terms, but that's not the question here. Pryor by unanimous decision, or late stoppage if it was a 15-rounder.
