I will take Benitez in a pretty exciting chess match.

Mayweather is a counter puncher, but does not throw many combinations. He hits and then gets out. I see Benitez being the busier fighter and landing enough of his own to win the decision. Mayweather may time a few shots, but most offensive output by Mayweather will be avoided by Benitez. I think Benitez has the speed to catch Mayweather often and he is also a great counterpuncher.

This fight would be a dream match.

Mayweather ends up playing the role of Maurice Hope in a shocking ending.

I too would pick Benitez. I assume by the Hope comment that the fight is at 154.

154 lbs would be the weight Wilfred beat Duran, and probably at the weight he made his most shocking, quick k.o..

Robert, Benitez was a favorite of mine from '76 on....I loved his talent....and beating Cervantes at 17 was a monumental achievement IMO.
Normally I don't like outwardly arrogant, "in your face" fighters, but I loved Benitez's arrogance...it had a theatrical quality to it that reminded me somewhat of a silent screen villain....I mean, I know he lost to SRL and Hearns, but he won their staredown prefight....with Leonard, he compensated for being slightly shorter in height by tilting his head back slightly, so as to look down on Ray despite it all,...this was priceless to me....now he couldn't do this to Hearns, but he was a steadily impassive mask showing a cold, unblinking contempt for Tommy...I loved it...
vs Duran, he proved that ice was superior to fire...
Yes, he was indeed a pleasure to watch, a fighter I really liked, and I think he would have beaten the pseudo-Floyd, a fighter I despised.
