Sadly, the only way to "beat" Joe Calzaghe is to knock him out or at least equal his work rate. I was watching how well Taylor beat Lacy, and thought Taylors workrate was good. However dropping that work rate in a fight against Joe would not get the victory. Even if Taylor, being the "big" version of Mayweather, learned Mayweather's defensive skills he would still need to equate the work rate or knock him out. The latter just does not seem likely (although Taylor has power).

    Power: Even
    Stamina: Even
    Defense: PBF
    Workrate: Calzaghe
    Accuracy: PBF
    Speed: PBF
Chin: PBF he has never been really hurt or knocked down in a fight Joe has.
Intelligence: PBF although Calzaghe is genius PBF is the smartest fighter in the game and can adapt to all styles.
    PBF by UD.

Both will land but Calzaghe will land more. PBF would have single shot successes fighting off the back foot and early on he will evade Calzaghe's counter timing better than he will as the fight goes. What could tell in the final 3rd of the fight is that Calzaghe will have been setting the pace up until then, and I don't see Calzaghe slowing down or getting knocked out by a single shot. People are stating that stamina is even but I feel Calzaghe has a decisive edge in that department. You can have all the skills in the world but when you're not allowed to settle into your rhythm and are made to fight at an uncomfortable tempo for a full 12 rounds it is a big factor. Whatever it would be intriguing - shame they're too many divisions apart!

i say calzaghe, calzaghe would hunt him down and throw too many punches, like dlh but calzaghe wouldnt stop.. and would win an ugly fight

Floyd is the better fighter for sure, but something that our American cousins need to realise is that the JC that fought Hopkins had been on the slide for a few years. He has had his biggest wins in his last 4 or 5 fights for sure. But the Calzaghe of 5 years ago would have stopped Lacy, won widely against Kessler and Hopkins and stopped Jones. Don't make the mistake in thinking that JC has had his biggest fights at his peak years. That is a crime Frank Warren needs to apologise for. JC at his peak is not the man who beat Hopkins, his best performance was Lacy, but he was thought to be slipping before then.

That said p4p against Floyd and he loses, though Floyd would get hit more than in any other fight, same as Hopkins and Jones. And if its the peak JC it would not be the injury wridden slaps .

Have you actually watched Mayweather fight?

    Probably not.

Because if you had, you would know he has GREAT stamina, just as Joe. Friendly advice, keep your "view" about Mayweather's stamina in this thread only, we won't tell. :good

And yes, you're right. Now that I think of it, Mayweather was slow as hell.

thats purely because of his defensive skills, not the fact that he has a great chin. to be honest, nobody but mayweather knows what his chin is like because i dont think i have ever seen him take a knockout shot clean on the chin. he always slips it or leans back on it, whereas we all know what calzaghes chin is like? he has a great chin but its not his chin that stops him getting ko'd, its his recovery. he recovers from knock downs and big punches in no time at all. so there would be nothing floyd could do that would really hurt calzaghe. imo anyway :smooch

I went with Joe on this, not because I think he is better then Floyd but because I think Floyd would try to counter punch Joe and or pot shot Joe and I don't think that would work. Even though Joe is there to hit it seems like guys can only counter him early and as the fight goes on he gets faster and harder to hit. Joe would eventually win on workrate. I think its a pickem based on skills. Its tough a question though with really no right answer, they fought at such different weights its hard to really envision this even when you try to imagine or take the equation of weight out of it.
