I know it seems like an excuse but Canelo really was drained That and/or he had a very poor game plan. Second time around, I don't see him being so foolish (i think he fought that way not because he wanted to but because he knew he'd gas if he let his hands go due to being drained)
Canelo takes this pretty easily at 155. He was drained nearly to death at 152 - he couldn't do a damn thing this drained. The few moments he could muster the energy and rip a combo to floyd on the ropes you could see floyd crying and looking to the ref. Basically, the Maidana fight showed Canelo a lot. Don't bother trying to mix up the boxing like he did to Austin trout…walk him down and beat his ass like Maidana did (and like he did to Lara). The Canelo who fought Lara (with the ironman stamina) utterly destroys Floyd.
Floyd wins again. Unless he's able to change his style(which there's been no evidence of since), he doesn't have more than a puncher's chance against Floyd. Canelo is very good at counterpunching brawler-types that don't move a lot and that he has a technique edge on. He has struggled against every solid boxer he has fought(Gomez, Trout, Floyd, Lara) because he's facing guys with technique that matches him(or better) and more mobility, a trait Canelo lacks as things stand. He's still relatively young, so he could develop more but I haven't seen much change in his game over the past few years.
I totally agree. A sustained barrage would ensure a victory Mayweather would be way to scared to open up on Canelo if he was consistently applying pressure I see a UD for Canelo
I know hes doesn't cut the ring off the best but the size difference would be too great. If Alvarez wasn't drained he would have won the first encounter
You're right. its not in his style to apply pressure but if he fought like he did in the Lara fight he'd probably win a UD I'm not saying he impressed in the Lara fight but the way he fought was different. He didn't stand in the middle of the ring and try to counter but rather pressed the action. He wasn't effective against Lara but Mayweather is smaller and can't really take those punches from Alvarez at 100%
there is no way in hell Mayweather would take it at 155 so you needn't worry about that I'm just saying at that weight, Alvarez would be too big and strong for Mayweather
Except for Canelo was throwing one shot at a time and loading up, as well as doing a lot of "following" pressure, not cutting off the ring with skill type of pressure. That's easy for Floyd to deal with. And even though Floyd's not a high workrate guy, he generally throws a lot more than Lara did that night. For Canelo to have a shot against Floyd, he'll have to apply intelligent pressure consistently and put punches together at the least. Neither of which he's ever done against a good boxer, much less arguably the best boxer. I'm not saying he can't learn how to do it, but it is unlikely at this point.
After his performance in their first fight, I'm not sure how many people would be interested in seeing a second one.
