The reason they will claim it to be a top win for Pacquiao is due to Pacquiaos comparable size alone with him competing at Welterweight when he didn't have any business residing there & with the consensus in which way he would defeat him as Manny usually busted & hurt his opponents as opposed to the latter, I hoped they would have made that fight with Pac/Canelo as it was being discussed at the time but didn't happen disappointingly, that or a Maidana/Pac fight would have also been a great fight stylistically.
I knew it wouldn't take long for people to say with a straight face that being 36 is an advantage over being 23.
Well Mayweather started his career at Super Featherweight and certainly was no Jr Middleweight he was a small guy. Mayweather was also the wrong side of 30 and schooled a young undefeated champion who was considered the number 1 fighter at Jr Middleweight.
haha Canelo is a proper bum Imagine if 25 year old Fury let 39 year old Wlad beat him for a single second of any round? Canelo let 50 year old Floyd do it to him round after round.
At the time I thought Canelo had a good chance of winning, man I was terribly wrong. That was a masterful performance from Floyd.
Baldomir had 12 losses and was shot. Ndou had 11 losses and sucked. Then he fought Hatton, Rhodes, Cintron, Mosley, and Lopez. All just resume builders. Until he ran into Trout whom many felt he lost to. Stop the cap. Clenelo wasn't ready and that's why Floyd chose him. Marquez, Floyd, Pac, and now Crawford all operated at their highest level after age 30. They channeled the wisdom and experience. Peak Clenelo (160-175) would put Floyd's head into the seats.
He also beat Lara, Trout, both good wins how in the world can you fight 7 world title fights and have 43 fights and be green ? that makes no logical sense. I already said Canelo wasn't at his peak yet but to say he's green is nonsense, he wasn't some upcoming prospect thrown into the wolves. He was a world champion with multiple world title fights and P4P top 10 fighter. Mayweather beat Canelo when he was the ranked number 1 ranked Jr Middleweight ? so what do you mean that's why Mayweather chose him ? so fighting the best current Jr Middleweight is handpicking an opponent ? what you're saying makes absolutely no sense. I suppose Mayweather being 37 past his prime and fighting above his best weightclass also isn't taken into consideration ? Mayweather could never fight at Middleweight or Light Heavyweight so that's a silly comparison, P4P at their best respected weights Mayweather is better than any version of Canelo end of.
The way I remember it, Alvarez was the one pushing for the fight with Mayweather. First, the haters said Alvarez was drained even though he weighed in one pound less than his previous fight. Then he was “green” although he had more fights than Horn who kicked Pac’s ass. The same Alvarez that Mayweather beat would have bodied Pac.
With the little wear and tear Floyd had, his championship calibre competition greatly surpassed anything Canelo had done at 23. Canelo barely separated himself from Trout (his best win at the time) as the best JrMW.
Clenelo, at his peak at 160-168, would put Floyd in the dirt. Floyd didn't fight peak Clenelo. Deal with it.
Maybe the actual narrative is that Canelo chased the fight with Mayweather because he thought he was aging and it backfired.
Trout is a good fighter though he beat Cotto convincingly i also had him beating Charlo by 2 or 3 points, its a very good win for Canelo at the time over an undefeated fighter. It was a close fight but the knockdown was the difference. Canelo beat the two best Jr Middleweights at that time in Trout, Lara, although they were close Canelo's power punching was the difference. I just can't see how people can say Canelo was green when he beat two of the best Jr Middleweights, had 7 world title fights and 43 professional fights. Not at his peak ? yes. Green ? no.
